Adox Art 25 in XTOl 1:1?

In my camera bag I have a number of Adox 25 films, 35mm, and in my darkroom I only have XTol... I need my prints on monday, there is no camera shop within 40 miles, and mail delivery of other developers will be too late... no Rodinal, Pyros or whatever.

So, I must use Xtol, a developer I use for everything 1:1 and 1:2, always taking care of using a minimum of 100ml per film. 1:3 does not work well with my Jobo tanks because they only need 240ml liquid per film.

In the Massive Dev Chart I only found times for stock and 1:3. I believe that stock developer might not be a good idea because the Adox could get a lot of contrast, and I photographed in bright sunlight... that always asks for one-shot diluted developer.

Who can give me a reliable time at 20 degrees Celsius for Adox 25 in XTol 1:1 or 1:2? It's 35mm film.

1:3 ?

A test roll, I'd think, is called for. Have
you actually tested 1:3 at the tanks full
capacity. A little chemistry can go a long
way. My bet, if 1:2 will do 1:3 will
work fine. Dan

Well, I have ONE roll left... and guess how to avoid wasting this only shot.

1:3 does not work in these tanks, only 500ml fit in, that's 125 stock solution plus 375 water, not enough for 2 films. I have only one tank here and 12 films to process... sounds like a long night. At 1:2 I would have 166ml stock solution per film. With 1:1 it might work, 250ml stock plus 250ml water, that sounds good. I think I will compare the different dilution times for other films and derive somehow what is the rule when diluting that soup more or less... and make this only test shot..

If you only have one roll, then do a clip test. In the dark, clip off one end, making sure you get enough to have an image on it. Process that, evaluate, then adjust developing time accordingly.

Take massive dev. chart time, and for 1:1, double it, keeping agitation:time ratio the same and you should be fine and get not optimum, but workable results, as with any time you use someone else's data.

FYI, that film is exactly the same as Efke, according to Freestyle.

I believe I've only used this combination once. My notes say I used XTOL 1+1 for 8:00 at 20C and that the results were "distinctly dense," so I'd suggest trying 7:00 or 7:30 to at least get in the ballpark. Note that I use a manual tank with inversion agitation, so you may need to further tweak this for rotary development. Sorry I can't be more precise on this, but that's all the data I've got.

Metol + Sodium Sulfite = Great Developer

Check out D-23. I use it and many others as well. A bottle
of each of the above chemicals on the shelf will last and last
and ... . So otherwise out of developer? It's on the shelf.
In a pinch will do well as a soft print developer.

You've a 100ml XTOL per roll minimum. Where did you
come by that as a minimum of stock strength? I'm
certainly not going to recommend 125ml of stock
for two rolls but am still putting my money on
that amount being plenty. Extended times
in the developer of course.

Some rotary XTOL users could likely shed some light
on usable minimums. Dan
