This will be a useless piece of technology that will ultimately make forged images appear legit. 1 week after this system is launched hackers will release a cleansing tool that allows your manipulated images to appear unmanipulated. Even at the most simple level I would think someone only has to manipulate the image, then take a screenshot of it on a highresolution display, then save the screenshot as a new file. So all I see coming out of this is a new breed of deception and heavy manipulators claiming their images are all "unmanipulated"..

Since I can print my digital file on FB paper (or other kind of photographic paper), or even create a negative from it (on real film, using a film recorder) there is no real use for that kind of gitzmo...

Will there be some sought of legal recourse? Such a scheme cannot possibly work without a severe penalty for heathens, such as the electric chair. Scratch that, something analgue such as the guilotine would be more appropriate.

I agree with Sean actually....won't work. Most pixelographers inhabit such a pixelated universe that they cant see how incredibly obvious most of their manipulation is....those that are truly determined will always find a way.

Manipulation in the medium of computer generated images will be alive, no matter technology or whatever else, as long as many “think” it is a photograph. Manipulation is the very basic property of digital images and it cannot go without it. And who will buy photoshop with intention not to manipulate. What is a use of knowing that some images are or not manipulated. Wast of manipulations are within politic, advertisements, and generally fooling people around, not many for the court use when someone can get time to figure out the matter. In the world of art also what is a use of such software. As I can stretch my mind this moment it will just bust manipulation with “you see it passed this …. software check…” miyauuuuu.
One can go to photo.net to see how hard bite people got into manipulations. They are just born for it. Shop lifters, robbers, cheaters are around much longer than computer manipulation, but honest people are also still around too.
Arigram, photography (or how you call it analog photography) is completely different world from computer generated images, different medium. All they have in common is that both can produce an image. But there are also so many other mediums that produce images.

Hey, they need to provide SOMEthing for the extra few hundered bucks....

AP has already told its photographers "no Noise Ninja" etc. They are super sensitive about this stuff because it affects the value of all their contracts.

Will forgery be impossible? No. Will it be harder? Sure. And as long as the appearance of legitimate effort by AP, police forces, and other likely customers are made, then.... people will happily buy it.

BTW, it occurs to me that if every camera is traceable from the photographs it made, cross-indexed against warranty cards and maybe credit-card purchases, well.... you figure it out.

Shouldn't the Bill of Rights' provision for a people's militia include the right to wage media war?
