Do you use a smartphone? (I bet you don't after all I've read about protecting your privacy...) Do you use Windows or OS X? (Do you believe they don't collect information?)

And you don't need to be connected to use downloaded Adobe CC products, AFAIK, to continue to work, it needs to check with the server every 30 days. (The rest of the communication is for checking the upgrades.) See Adobe's privacy site for more info here.

It is good to have a cloud-based option, but one size does not fit all. It doesn't meet my needs and I don't want it in the case of Photoshop. Just another reason for me to keep on using CS3.

What if you don't carry internet for 30 days because you're hiking in the back country and are editing on the go? Can you pre-pay for an extended time so that you don't lose your service?

Can you get LR5 without CC if you don't use PS?

StoneNYC has a point there, indeed. I didn't think of that myself because I live in a country with almost ~99% cellular coverage.

About LR; single application subscription (just PS for instance) is more expensive than PS + LR combo, and you don't have to install PS to run LR, and it's good to have a license for PS even if you opt to not use it.

And I must say I appreciate much Adobe's current pricing policy; I'm finally a legitimate / licensed user of their products! I don't have to feel guilt (of piracy) anymore. I wasn't able to pay for their licenses before (I'm not a pro - I don't make a living from photography), because of their bad (extremely expensive) pricing policy in Turkey - party due very high tax rates / extra costs that applies to us here. The old licence fee for PS + LR was something around USD 800-850 here, I currently pay USD 92 annually. (PS+LR monthly subscription costs TRY 17 here, not USD 17...) 800 / 92 ~= 8.5 years, and I will be always updated.

Adobe will be making much more overall (a good counter-measure for piracy), something which (hopefully) will return to us with better products with better prices.

£17.58 doesn't sound that much today, but it will no longer be possible to miss an upgrade if funds are tight. No pay - no play.

I would be interested in what others think.

Les

that's excactly why they did it.these companies are aiming for a constant revenue stream.eventually, all will go this way.

I don't believe in subscribing. I use CS3 and lightroom 5 and get the results I enjoy. I don't use photoshop on a constant level to warrant having Adobe attach itself to my Credit Card. Its a dangerious thing in my book. If I have to upgrade in the future I will look to buy Adobe CS6 or with any luck another company will come with a similar editing software.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet, but Affinity photo looks pretty good. Perpetual licensing model, and very reasonably priced to boot. Mac only but they say they're developing a Windows version.

If you could get the time, software companies took from claiming to produce another version on the'other' system until theu actually did, You would live forever:wink:
