Adhesive for body leather UK

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a couple of loose corners of leather on my Hasselblad and wondered if anyone be able to recommend a decent adhesive that is available in the UK? The internet seems to highly recommend Pliobond 20 but this doesn't appear to be readily available in the UK.

It's contact cement. See if you can find a different brand in the UK. It's the kind of glue that you put on both surface. Wait for it to dry before you stick to the camera. It remain pliable and can be removed easily when you need. They design camera so that almost any maintenance you need to remove the leatherette.

Polarbearcamera.com, UK based, sell some useful camera repair items. They offer a glue - Konishibond G17 which appears to have similar properties to Pliobond. Worth checking with them.

EvoStik Contact adhesive.....but don't try the "eco" solvent free version.....it's crap.

If it's just corners and edges then use this. Apply it, press together to spread, pull apart, allow to dry a bit then press together. Has never failed me. Also sticks anything to anything else.

You need EvoStik 'Time Bond', useful for around the house and not just cameras. Spread it onto both surfaces and wait a few minutes before pressing them together, it will allow some repositioning time. Any excess that squidges out around the edges don't clean it up with solvent etc., make a dry ball of the glue and using tweezers to hold it use this to pull off any excess glue around the edges on the 'glue sticking to glue principle'.

I tested Konishi G17 for Polarbear, they kindly sent me a tube, to compare with Pliobond 20.
It has similar properties ... though less solids, and much less odour.
It has a higher bond but material can still be removable.

I started reading a glue label … and I could not put it down.

I will give the Konishi Bond G17 a try. Pliobond just smells too strong.

Do some testing. I tried it and got one of those super hard contact cement bonds that would not allow for release. I probably did something wrong, but just to warn you that if you do go wrong, you get a permanent bond.

While we're on the subject of adhesives available in the UK any recommendations for a suitable adhesive for replacing the shutter curtains on the Asahi Pentax S2 and similar - both for gluing the ribbons to the drums and to the rubberised cloth and attaching the metal strips to the edge of the cloth? Ideally something that gives plenty of time to adjust the position of the parts being glued.

I used Konishi G17 to attach curtains on a Barnack type Minolta-35 camera and gave enough time for adjustment. Nobby Sparrow uses this glue for Leica's.

Pliobond can be used if you don't follow the instructions but instead apply to the camera, and while still wet promptly apply the covering.

I have also had good luck with using rubber-cement (I don't know if it goes by other names in the UK or EU or ROW). Apply to both surfaces, allow to dry until tacky and then clamp the bits together.

Both let you pull things apart if the alignment is not right. Both will be mostly permanent with time; Pliobond will be the more permanent of the two.

If I am faced with re-gluing a lot of the covering I have often gone ahead and put all new covering on the camera. I have used https://www.cameraleather.com/ (their website seems to be under re-construction) and the replacement fits perfectly. Their Griptac material is excellent - as the name implies it gives a very grippable non-slip finish to the camera, and that is what it is all about, really.

I use Cemedine Super X, available in small tubes via *Bay sellers. Minimal odor, cleans up readily with naptha, and particularly at cooler ambient temperatures, it can take hours to reach full adhesion, but even during heat waves, it's much more forgiving than Pliobond and similar adhesives. When fully cured, it offers strong adhesion, yet remains flexible and doesn't seem to harden or dry out with age.

Thanks 4season, I'll have a look at Cemedine, I think I remember seeing it mentioned in a Japanese website post about Asahi Pentax shutters. Thanks also dxqcanada, I'll also have a look at Konishi G17. Thanks Nicholas, unfortunately Pilobond doesn't seem to be available in the UK.
