Actual new film or rebadge ?

Press release says its a smooth grain film for the new digital age. Also says 'New Seagull 100/400' etc. Might be lucky film still though.

This was released today in Japan - here is their press release in Japanese.

I believe it's an original Oriental made film. Prices were released today too, at Yodobashi camera the following is posted:

ASA100 - 670yen (~$6US)
ASA400 - 800yen (~$7.2US)

Not exactly cheap but great that there is new film being manufactured!

Where does the package say the paper is made? Japan or the UK?

It says this will be on sale tomorrow in Japan. I'll get a roll and test it.

Yodobashi already has it listed Eric! Should be easy.

What are you going to do about developing it? I haven't seen any data anywhere.

Well, Yodobashi lists ID-11 as the preferred developer...I'm guessing (or hoping) there will be some developing instructions included in the box.

4 different (but similar) films, manufactured by the same manufacturer.

Harman refuses to re-badge any of their Ilford or Kentmere films.

They do, however, contract manufacturing, with the customer supplying the specifications.

With all that custom coating at Harman we must not forget the amount of film a single masterroll yields.
And the costs of just making one masterroll different to others.

The size of a master roll at Harman is smaller than Kodak or Fuji.
It is still long enough for about 80.000 135 rolls if I'm not mistaken or if I remember well what Simon once wrote.

Too many wild guesses around.
Lets wait until someone has used them.

I think re-badged/subcontract, from memory the Oriental coating line closed a few years ago and for quite a time had only coated B&W and colour papers.

Checked today and they only had the 100 speed in stock. I'll wait for the 400 speed. It's definitely the cheapest b/w film here in Japan now.

Seems like if somebody was going to start coating film for a new line there would have been something said about it. I am guessing a re-badge or contract order from an existing company. However here in the states the cost of that film would not appeal to me. I am going to stick with TX or HP5. It's nice there is something new out there. Now if somebody would start making some camera's again that are cheaper then a new Subaru.

Someone bought it and said it says on the box "Made in UK"

Ben,
It wouldn't be strictly speaking Kentmere for the reasons already pointed here and elsewhere.
As you are in Tokyo, you can test that by yourself.
Enjoy it!
