Acros 100 in peril?

I've ordered several pro-packs of 120 Acros from Adorama as they have it open to order although it is back-ordered. It has been on order for two weeks now and I just inquired as to ship dates. This was their response.

It's going to be OK. Let Ilford ease your pain. You want to gradually taper off of Acros, and slowly work in some Delta 100 and FP4plus.

85% of my interest in film photography is gone. I bought 2 rolls of delta 100 but haven’t shot a frame. I’m just going through the motions. I’ve sold off all my EF lenses except one and am going to start on my F mount gear next.

I bought a new bicycle and am going to take that up as a hobby. I hope that works.

Yeah... seeing Andrew's picture made me feel bad ( but glad he got some for him! ). I ordered some when B&H still said "available in 7-14 days", and got an email yesterday saying "your order is still on backorder". At least they didn't cancel my order, but I'm getting less hopeful. I don't think I've got more than 10 or 12 rolls left here.

I'm pretty confident I'm going to like FP-4 in 120....

I went through Cibachrome withdrawal, I understand your attachment to Acros. Kodachrome, Ektalure ,etc. Still I'm going to keep after film. There's always a way. What would be good would for you might be to get a rebuilt Kodak Retina, and a roll of FP4, ride your bike with that lovely little folder.

Don't fall off your bike, I've been riding for over 50 years. Last spring I decided I needed a new bike. Had a fancy 8 speed internal hub, I was looking down at the grip shifter trying to figure it out . I crashed going 4 mph when I bumped into the curb . Bike was untouched, I went to the hospital in an ambulance, broken collar bone and 5 ribs. Decided to stick with my old bike.

Wow, what a haul. Well done. I ordered a 3-pack of 135 Acros from a vendor in Japan, and it came in the mail in about a week. I suppose I should order more. But when looking back on my recent pictures, I can't fault Tri-X 400. It just looks right for the type of pictures I take. Grain? Who really cares? Some Cuba examples:

It'll be available via eBay for awhile, though prices will certainly rise sharply. It's best we buy it now while it's still available from regular retailers, even if they're overseas.

Yes it is, every emulsion has its own character. Acros can look very digitally sharp, very little grain, it has great long exposure capabilities (receprocity) and it’s “inky” blacks just to name a few.

Every emulsion has its own 'look' but Acros' true claim to fame is its incredible and absolutely unmatched reciprocity characteristics. That feature doesn't matter much to everyone but it does to many.

4. Absolutely bullet proof from backing paper issues.

I've shot nearly 1000 rolls of Acros 120 size and have never seen even a hint of negative damage from the backing paper. I've had scores of problems with Kodak paper and very rarely an issue from Ilford film. Fujifilm has THE very best backing paper in the industry.

I was just lucky my (Japanese) wife was going over there when this was all going down. She called me and asked me if I wanted more, and of course I said yes... if you can manage to carry it all on the plane with you. My wife just checked again for me now and she said that you can still get it on Amazon Japan for 2300 Yen. It's the cheapest. You'd be able to order it, but would need to have a mailing address in Japan, as my wife said they won't ship outside Japan. Maybe the Kumar fellow is the way to go... but I have no idea what he charges. Other places in Japan are over 3000 Yen...

Please, what does “inky blacks” mean? And please don’t tell me it’s a film trait. Black is black, there’s nothing such deep or shallow black.

If you're looking for inky blacks, look no farther than Ilford HP5+ in DR5. Yes, you get a positive back, but then I like positives. I shot some Christmas pictures on HP5+ at EI 1600, sent them off in the mail to DR5, and got back awesome looking positives which I have yet to scan, so I can't upload one to show you.

Sorry to hear that, RattyMouse. I recently inherited a stereoscope and some stereoscopic pictures from my grandparents. In the metal hood is stamped "Exposition Universelle Internationale 1900." It's made me think about getting a stereo camera and shooting some color negative film it (of all the film I shoot, color negative is probably shot the least in 35mm, I tend to shoot that in 120) for mounting my own stereo pictures. For posterity, of course.

As for the new bicycle, cycling is a fun hobby. I took it up back in 2012. I finally worked up to a metric century + about 4 miles last year with a buddy of mine from high school last year. I was a little sore afterwards. It hurt so good.: ) When I switched from a mountain bike to a road bike, my speed instantly went up about 5 mph.

I just received 50 rolls from an order I place with Adorama on 4-4-2018. Maybe the last I will ever get so I will use it wisely.
