I understand that this item returns with a systematic frequency as it keeps some of us 'awake'.
I also understand that the flow of answers always coalesce to a similar outcome: chemicals, acidity, temperature, timing, clearing, rinsing, toning, washing and so many more.
I think (as I understand it) that any of us should search for an opus operandi that suits hem/her/X the best by keeping a thorough quest, for which this forum is a very good fishing ground, testing the different approaches and finally stick to one way and go out and take photographs...
By this I take the liberty to suggest one approach, the ILFORD one (again).
And I would like to point to The Image Permanence Institute of the Rochester Institute of Technology (remember Eastman-Kodak) which is a very interesting and extremely trustworthy source for information too. Not to mention the vast AGFA-Gevaert literature...
BTW: I use K.H.C.A. instead of the Ilford Washing Aid (that's for a little bit my way)...
