I treat my gear with kid gloves, just about. However, the ONLY time I've ever dropped a camera was in the freezing cold at Alishan in Taiwan, and I dropped it twice in two minutes. My wife still laughs at me for using sticky tape to hold bits of the flash together (after super glue failed!).

I'm glad to hear from Mike that it is worth while treating gear gently, makes my effort worth it. I've recently bought a Minolta 50mm 1.4, and it looks like it was used only once. But then, I'm in Japan where they treat everything carefully, so buying second hand gear is a dream. (I've also got a 28mm f2.8 and 100mm 2.8 macro, all appearing like new, and all second hand, which must make resale wonderful).

"Abuse refers to the use or treatment of something (a person, item, substance, concept, or vocabulary) that is harmful."

...

Just saw this  I speak nicely to mine, and warn it of the dangers of substance abuse. Luckily, one of mine is film, so it doesn't have to worry about viruses. However, the lenses must take care to avoid fungus, so I should practice safe lens use.

I find it very offensive to see my posts abused like this, shame on you  :D

The way my gear look is the least of my worries; as long as they do what I tell them to do and do it well.

My cameras are my friends. I neither abuse them, but nor do I protect them from experiencing life. They are aging slowly and gracefully.

That’s the attitude that I like!

Hey Jason Brunner...I just ordered your beginners darkroom DVD. Cannot wait for it to arrive!

I have watched all your youtube videos, infact you ones on film processing is what I used to get start myself. If you look at the link below you will see my plans for a dark room that I am building in my house. I would greatly appreciate it if you had any input.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Thanks

Jason

I walked into a local camera shop recently and saw a rather battered and bruised OM1 with a 50mm/f1.4 silver-nose on the front. The base plate looked like the camera had been used to bang in a few nails, the meter didn't work and the light seals were shot to hell. Apart from that - perfect.

I agreed a (very reasonable) price - more for the lens than the camera - subject to the camera shop getting it working properly. They did and 'Ollie' is here with me at work. I've just bought him a new little friend - a 100mm/f2.8 with no rubber focusing grip - but otherwise optically and mechanically perfect.

My missus thinks I'm bonkers and regards the cameras as one step up from junk. I like to think I've rescued a couple of old, neglected, flawed gems which will serve me well for years to come - and probably out-perform my D700 if I use them correctly, all for a fraction of the cost....!
