Recently for some strange reason one of my computers decided to crash and I had to reformat the drive.( Not a virus, )

Not a huge loss as I use this one mainly for "stuff", except it does have a lot of research bookmarks and it does have PS and various other software loaded including some that can't be replaced.

Up until recently we all know having backup copies is important except when it comes to software . Then it is phone calls and hourse of reloading etc.

Well, based on the recommendation of a computer person I purchase a program call REBIT. It copies EVERYTHING on the computer and transfers to an external drive I have especially for that purpose. This copy will do up to 6 computers. Right now I have 3 .

It makes regular updates so when *(not if) you have to restore you pick a date.

Well, IT WORKS. Takes some time, just walk away and forget about it over night and then next morning all that info is back.

For my Macs I use Time machine. For my PC's I back-up my data to an external and my system to a an extra internal.

I back up all photos, etc. to 4 external hard drives, this is basically for the software which until recently couldn't be restored in this manner.

FYI...

For Windows 7 (and presumably, Windows 8), this is called making a "System Image". It's built right into windows under the Backup section of the Control Panel. The image can be restored to a completely empty drive (of the same size or larger...that's the one catch) from your Windows install DVD or by making a "System Repair Disk", which option is available in the same place.

As always, when you're trying a new backup solution, make sure you know how to restore from it before you need it, especially since some RAID controllers (including Intel's built-in RAID controller) and some external enclosures may need drivers that need to be loaded by the restore program.

Apple's 'time machine 'has saved me countless times;no back-up software or technique works AS WELL AS TIME MACHNINE.thankyou Steven.

I use timeline and Arcronis
