RE Parkinsons Syndrome Vs Parkinsons Disease.....
I was mistaken when I said there was a Syndrome but not a Disease. There IS a Parkinsons Disease... but in my experience (father, photo teacher, perhaps myself in the future) MDs and the press (e.g. around Muhammed Ali) are careless about the distinction. A patient presents with tremors and is often assumed o have the "Disease".
Presumably MDs don't ask the patient about exposure to Pyro...but maybe they should.
The problem with assuming Disease is that the Syndrome is sometimes caused by chemical exposure and trauma. Which got Weston? What about Muhammed Ali?
fwiw...there is a "Parkinson Disease" , which may be the cause of "Parkinsons Syndrome" and "Parkinsonism". To complicate things, there is also a Parkinson Plus.
Parkinsonism, the Syndrome, is sometimes caused by chemical exposures (one example that got press a few years ago was caused by a bad batch of Ecstacy, the recreational drug. Parkinsons Syndrome (Parkinsonism) is sometimes reversible (unlike the Disease, which is apparently genetic).
PBS produced a film about this:
