Good morning to all,

My Name is David Parker and I own and operate Satin Snow(TM) Ground Glass, we make Ground Glass Viewing screens as many on here know.

The reason for my post is, I am trying to build a all inclusive database of Ground Glass Viewing Screen Sizes for as many cameras as I can to ensure when we make a replacement screen for a camera that we get it right the first time.

If you can or feel like helping out and could measure the sizes for any camera you have and forward to us, it would be a great help, I would like to know what camera model it is and what the size in Millimeters is possible, I have a good many on file now, but just want to make sure that we have every possible screen size that we can have.

Any help that anyone can provide I would be very thankful for, the main sizes I am interested in are of course 4" x 5", 5" x 7" and 8" x 10"

Thanks again and if you wish to send a size and model, please send to gglass@satinsnowglass.com

I have an old Toyo rotating 4x5. I've been meaning to measure it anyway so that I can order a Satin Snow replacement. I'll send the measurements to the above address as well.

I'll measure my Linhof Technika backs - 4x5" and 5x7". I'll even measure my antique 18x24cm camera, since I might want a new ground glass for it. BTW, that goes for my 9x12cm Voigtländer Bergheil as well

Hi Dave,

I recently received two GG screens from you for my 4x5 Ebony. Unfortunately, they were both just a little bit too wide (the 4" dim) to fit the back of the camera. It was very slight but just enough to make it impossible to mount one. I did not bother you about it because, really, it is a minor problem to fix. I intend to visit a local window and glass shop to have them trim the little bit off so they will fit.
I was surprised when I first received the GG and found that they would not fit but, after all, the Ebony is apparently hand made, and so are so many other LF cameras, it does seem abvious that they can not be all exactly the same.... which I suppose is why you are posting this query.
I would give you the exact measurements for the Ebony but it is away for repairs right now. Three weeks without my camera.... I am gonna go nuts pretty soon!
As soon as I get it back I will get the measurements to you.

Hi Tim R.

I wish you had a let me know, I try to make sure that every screen I produce fits the intended camera, that is why I try to get everybody to make sure and email the measurements for the particular camera they intened to used the glass in.

It is indeed difficlut to fit them all, there have been many hundreds of cameras produced over the last 100 years, and even within the same camera line we do see small variances in the cameras, we have even noted variations in the cameras with cast metal backs, that should be the same, but often we will see .5mm variances.

Tim, if when your camera gets back your glazier has any difficulty, please let me know and we will get it worked out so that your happy and have screens that fit correctly.

Thanks again.

Dave, the ground glass on my 8x10 Wehman is exactly 8" by 10" and is 0.115" thick.

The corners of the gg are cut off diagonally leaving an edge measuring 8 3/8" between the diagonal cuts (in the 10" side). In the 8" side, the edge between the diagonal corner cuts measures 6 3/8".

I will be ordering a couple of these from you.

Dave, the GG I received from you fit my Wisner 8x10 Expedition perfectly. And the thickness, rather thinness, is just perfect for my GG cover.

Sounds great! Unfortunately my ground glasses are 24x36 and 20x24 and have a clear (unground) X about 1/4 inch wide from corner to corner. I'm guessing this would be too big for you?.

Hello,

Currently our largest screen size is 16 x 20, we are looking for a supplier to furnish larger blanks, we will in the future be offering at least 20 x 24 and as we bring our new production shop online, we should be able to offer even larger sizes, when we have the capibilities for the larger size glass, I wll be sure and post here to let those know that require the larger sizes.

Thanks again everybody for helping me on our quest to build the database.

Just thought I would bump this back up the list a bit and see if anymore users could provide the dimentions on their cameras backs, we have received a good number of emails with dimentions and are building a great database, but just figured I would see if there were anymore.

Thanks for all the help.
