A quick review of Arista.edu Ultra 100 35mm

With the Fomapan films you do not need a Hardening fixer, but I find it doesn't like an acid stop bath, I use 3 changes of water as a stop, invert the tank 15 times each change, with the 120 that clears the green anti halation layer.

So far all I have used as a stop bath is tap water. I have a Patterson tank with the special hose they sell as an accessory. I find that 5 minutes seems to do a nice job. I might be over doing it, I don't know,I'm still new to this. I've been at it 3 years, but in that time I've gone through 3 of the smaller Arista 12(?)oz bottles of developer. The films I have used so far are HP5+, Legacy Pro,and Arista Premium 100.

5 minute wash as a stop is overdoing it, try the inversion method, works fine,

I hope this turns out. I am still learning how to attach images but here is a 35mm bulk load sample from a recent shot taken out in Jiggs with the Minolta SRT102 and the MD 50mm Macro. View attachment 52724 Not the greatest picture but it does show a good range of tones. One of the things I really enjoy about this film is that it will show clouds quite well without any filtering.

Looks pretty good Pioneer. Lots of good detail for 35 too.

Although it does look like the Space Shuttle or some kind of alien craft is coming up over the mountains.

Up From the Depths

I rescued several 100' rolls of this while cleaning the freezer today so I thought I would thaw a roll out and give it a ride.

I'll throw it in the loader tomorrow after it thaws. In the meanwhile I thought I would wake this thread back up and see who has been using it lately. Is there anyone experimenting with this?

BTW Racer X 69, that may indeed be some form of UFO over the mtns.

I've used it a fair amount and like it for what it is. Right now I'm going through some rolls of the 400 speed stuff. However, at the same price point I've drifted into using Kentmere 100. I guess the way I develop it, the Arista isn't as contrasty as I'd like and the Kentmere is.

That is very simple to find out: try them yourself.
Only YOU can tell how they compare and how they relate to YOUR tastes.
No matter what others say, only your experience with these films, the way you or the lab develops them will be relevant for you and no one else.

It will not be for me. Or it might be.
I'll have to try it for myself.

But, I couldn't go along Tmax 100.
It is the worst film I've tried for what I do and for my tastes.

Arista EDU 120 is excellent film. The earlier 120 films were really curly.

I am just the same. I don't like at all Tmax or most Kodak black and white films. I say "most" because I haven't tried all of them.

On the other hand Fomapan 400, fomapan 200 and Kentmere 400 are the ones I like the most. They have a sort of rustic look which gives more texture to images, thanks to their grain quality and contrast. Thanks god they are the cheapest too.
