I'd like to know your opinion about the course if you completed the entire thing. Also, what was the first project you tackled after completing the course and how did that go for you? I haven't started it yet.

I follow that group on Facebook and have downloaded some pdf’s related to a few cameras I was working on. Used to be free, now manuals are a dollar each.

They’re a great resource and it’s great that you’re considering taking it. It’s the real deal. Their manuals are authentic, the site is genuine, so you will not get “ripped off”.

So many YouTube repair guides are terrible. If you get advice from LearnCameraRepair it will be correct information.

I have not completed the LCR courses, though not all the course material is available yet ... but I will have to say that it is worth it.
I have learned soooo much about repairing the correct way, and especially learning how these camera work.
I started restoring camera's with the common YouTube practice of just flushing everything ... and after reading the course material I am now able to take apart many a leaf shutter and correctly repair it.
If you actually want to restore/repair cameras/lenses then you really should join the FB group and read the LCR course material.

The course has only limited use for me because I could not find anything about SLR cameras and focal plane shutters in the course materials. My focus is on 80s SLRs with a particular interest in electronics.

But Learn Camera Repair is great as a huge source for service manuals and technical information.

It is like learning a musical instrument. One can read all the books but one still needs countless hours of practice to be any good.

In terms of camera and equipment repair, that means hours of taking things apart and putting them back together.

For me camera repair is a hobby, just like film photography.

I followed the curricula until I fouind what I needed to fix my low-risk targets (1950s AGFAs)
It is an excellent course

I haven't done the National Camera Repair Course, but I did go through the entire National Camera Repair Guide for the Pentax K1000. These are different than service manuals. They assume you are a beginner and take you through every aspect of the camera; metering system, focusing, shutter speed control, winding mechanism etc. For me, this was more practical and helpful than learning about all of the different components of a camera separately. From here I can comfortably branch out to other Pentax SLRs and eventually work my way to other brands if I get bored.

In my opinion, the Repair Course is too broad for most hobbyists, even ones that are willing to dive deep. I think the Repair Guides are a better balance between valuable instruction and still doing something that's fun.

The SPT Journals & Service Notes cover excellent instructions how to address problems with selected electronic SLRs in detail. Some issues are available on Learn Camera Repair.
