I have a fair amount of sodium carbonate on hand and would like to make use of it rather than purchase another chemical. The formula for TF-3 Alkaline Rapid Fixer calls for the use of sodium metaborate:
Ammonium thiosulfate 60% 800 ml
Sodium sulfite (anhydrous) 60 g
Sodium metaborate 5 g
Water to make 1 litre
Would it be possible to replace the sodium metaborate with an appropriate amount of sodium carbonate? Would the following formula yield similar results:
Ammonium thiosulfate 60% 800 ml
Sodium sulfite (anhydrous) 60 g
Sodium carbonate 3 g
Water to make 1 litre
(Sorry for asking what is probably a very basic question. Chemistry was my bane in high school.
