I have an AGFA Duoscan which is nice, because it takes both prints and film up to 8x10".

I use Vuescan for scanning, post processing in Paint Shop Pro v.7, with final gamma adjustment (for the net) in IrfanView.

All my tweaking is intended to get the scan as close to hte print as possible.

for black and white do you scan in greyscale?

i know it cuts the filesize down which is good, but even though it should look the same i'm never really pleased with a greyscale scan

No, I always scan in colour. My blacks are never neutral, nor do I want them to be. Scanning in grayscale and adding colour in PSP just doesn't give the same result.
