I personally attend equipment talk but sometimes it takes focus away from the photography as art itself. It twistes thoughts in direction where photography becomes more and more equipment-centric. This is causes GAS and other mind mixing things - at least for me.

I was thinking if there could be a place for this kind of talk, without ANY reference to equipment.

So then I found out that photrio has groups-features which could allow setting up this kind of group/talk area!

Darkroom is a place where it is so dark, one can't even see it. It is that darkness that perpetuates creativity one can actually see.

I have a dimroom, but I guess that would be 'equipment'.

How the art was made is part of the art -- I do not, cannot, separate them. An artist's tools shapes the artist as much as it does the art. I might check it out later...

Hmmm - is this a group to talk about "famous" photographers' work, or about the elements and philosophy of photography in general. I don't enjoy talking about a third person's work, even if they are well-known. But I would enjoy hearing a photographer (people who participate here) talk about his or her own work. Or about the process/philosophy/elements of photography.

Everything related to photography is allowed. The only rule is that no equipment talk is allowed. Otherwise feel free to talk about photography as you like!

Jouni, great idea!

due to the adoption of my grandkids i've had to move into the digital world and plan for the eventual dismantling of my darkroom. Vaughn's words ring very true - the artists tools shape the art and the artist.

my digital work is different, in spite of my efforts to do minimal manipulation and mimic my darkroom processes. The mention, in generic terms, of the the tools is appropriate just as we note the tools and technique a painter uses. i will miss the darkroom and will return to it when space allows.
