My mother in law makes good ones! Then she sends them to us across the Atlantic, it's always funny to see how much they get crushed in the mail.

We've sent melomakarona to others within Greece, I've heard of others sending some within the continent, but transatlantic dispatch is something I wouldn't expect. Lucky you!

Crushed or not, they're just as delicious.

This makes me think of loukoumathes(english sp?)

I suppose most would spell them loukoumades, which would be close enough and avoid the ambiguity of "th". Loukoumades are soft, melomakarona are basically biscuits dipped in honey - sugar syrup. They're very nice, but melomakarona are much better.
