I don't see why you shouldn't promote it elsewhere Hoffy. What you're proposing seems the same as new walk up members to photrio, which we wouldn't have a problem with. Nothing seems to change on our end.

I'm away from today so my comments may need to wait until some time next week.

Here goes I might be the first if there is no one already commenting on the prints about to post the reply all while I am starting. So in no particular order...

Hoffy - "Front of a Fastback". I had a Minolta 7, well I had the Dynax 7i, I sold it and all my lenses to buy my first digital SLR. Little did I know I would go back to film after 5 years of digital only. Enough of me now for the print. Ash it looks so warm, and as if it has colour. The back boarder before the white really helps. You have everything from vivid white to deep blacks in the print. A pleasure to look at.

Chiller - "Pit Stop". Second of two automotive themes. Coincidence I am sure and I am only saying this because I work in the industry. This print also appears warm to look at. Not a hint of grain that my eyes can detect and I like the image on the pearl finish paper. I'd like to see this image much larger like 16x20. My only comment was that there is a black line where the easel board blade thinned out, but I sliced off the <1mm edge and all is good for me.

Carriage - "Swanston Street Reader". Third image on Pearl paper. I like the ray of light coming down from the heavens. The picture to me conveys a man contemplating at the moment you took the picture. I am impressed with where you burnt in the print as I can't find any evidence. Job well done. I keep coming back to this picture just to look at the detail in the image.

Michael W - Inspecting Negatives. The only fiber based paper image in this exchange. One of three glossy prints. Again with your note that you've done some dodging, I think it has been done very well indeed as I would not have known if not told. Thanks for the explanation of how this print came about as for me it adds a great deal to what I can see in front of me.

Ozxplorer - "Side by side - Old with New!". Your print brings me home. The grain serves the image well, I like the deep blacks and almost cotton ball white clouds. I was there last November and I have to say there was not a lot of clouds in the sky, just blue sky raining down a ton of burning UV.

Kevin Caulfield - "Sentosa". Second medium format print. It looks like the picture is taken in the dead of night. Was it. I know when the storms go through Singapore they dump a phenomenal amount of rain in a very short time. Another picture that I keep coming back to looking for the detail within.

Thanks to everyone who participated. Yet another brilliant round of pictures and wonder stories behind each print. I hope everyone can do another round, and Ash is able to entice others into the exchange as well.

Thanks Andy. I appreciate the comments

And thanks as well Steve. I agree. I appreciate the effort that everyone has put in to the images that they send.

Cheers

My comments for this round.

Chiller - "Pit Stop". I like the layered nature of the image how your eye is drawn from the car, to the bowsers and then to the building in the background. I also quite like how not seeing the whole car makes me wonder what else is outside the frame. Nice photo. Also, I can't see the black line that Andy mentioned so perhaps it's only on his copy?

Kevin Caulfield - "Sentosa". In this photo I like the way the image is broken up into the courtyard/hotel grounds and the city and docks(?) beyond. Oddly, with no people it feels as if it's a ghost town, which is the opposite of what I've heard Singapore is like. I suppose it's more a feeling of a sense of quiet where it was taken at night while the city is further away. I also quite liked looking at the detail you've been able to capture

Oxleyroad - "White Rose". An interesting choice of crop as unlike the original photo you've put the flower in the bottom left. I think it gives a different feel as it makes the shapes of shadows of the rest of the bush a greater part of the composition and so there's more of interest to look at. As if it's about the flower as part of the greater plant rather than just another flower photo. Also, I love the novelty of the size and the paper surface of the small print. Thanks for sending that too.

Hoffy - "Front of a Fastback" I've liked the previous two car photos of yours I've received through past print exchanges and am happy to add this to my small collection. I like the smooth tones you've managed to get through all the changes in lighting on the glossy surfaces and how the horizontal lines in the car lead you across the image. Also, I like your choice of contrast.

Michael W - Inspecting Negatives. I think you've succeeded in what you've said you set out to do here so nice job printing it. I like how the focal point is the negative but you also get the feel of the dark room where you two are working. Nice work.

Ozxplorer - "Side by side - Old with New!". I'm always going to enjoy a photo of Melbourne but I do particularly like the point of view you've taken here. The cloud you mention does add textural contrast but also balance to the image, not leaving a large blank area. Looking closer, I enjoy the detail and overlapping layers of the buildings.

Thanks to all of you. Another enjoyable print exchange.

My comments -

Oxleyroad - Nice sharp focus on the rose. I like the way you cropped from the original. It's also good to see that Lucky film has beautiful tonality.

Michael W - A really great idea and very well executed. You captured a moment of somebody else checking their own captured moment. You did a great job with the darkroom dodging.

Ozxplorer - A great view of my home town. There's a bit of everything going on here, in a good way. And you did a great job reducing the converging verticals.

Carriage - I love everything about this. I love how the subject has his back to the camera. I love the way the light is coming straight at you. The people in the distance add a bit of drama to the composition. You have a flair for flare.

chiller - Interesting subject, beautifully executed. I can imagine the rust colours of the car and the bowsers. It's nice to see that the Foma 200 also has great tonality.

Hoffy - A lot of eye candy here. It holds the viewer's interest. The curves of the car draw the eye around the image. Awesome tonal range.

Thanks all for your great contributions and a huge thanks to Hoffy for coordinating it all once again.

How'd you do the black border Hoffy?
Ahhh, you are after the mysterious ingredient of my secret sauce?

Its nothing that complicated. I just included a small amount of the film rebate. So, this one is a bit of a rarity from me. It is the full frame from an image. Generally I am a serial cropper..... (no pun intended).
