I have to say I have enjoyed looking at and revisiting the images in this current round #14. The technical quality is very good but of more importance, the visual execution is excellent.
Each of the images had a story to tell me regardless of whether that was the actual story the photographer saw. I will try to avoid technicals as much as practical.
Sculptures - OZXPLORER. I have not been to the Docklands but the image of the sculptures conveys to me a possibly closed area that is safe to visit and at the same time vibrant and welcoming. Your image says to me I’m welcome to enter and explore.
Girl on Train - House. This is a great environmental portrait. Is she reading, looking at her phone.? Is she looking out the window? I just don’t know and that is the hook and appeal of this image. Top image.
Dicey - hoffy - As others have commented the use of the square format is excellent and challenging. I’m thinking Dr Who and some robot invasion or Wally the robot. The placement of the dice draws attention to “Look at me, Look at me” Space has been left to escape the gaze of the dice along the side of the car but I do have a sense those 5 little eyes will follow me until I leave.
Man and make-up, House on HP5+ - Michael W. The jacket, the background and printed on the Agfa paper with the wider border certainly says photography of an earlier time. The style of printing brings the elements together well. The experiment with the house - my choice would be #1 @ 400 iso. That can easily be tricked up with multigrade paper to give you any style you want.
Muscle Car Dashboard - Nige. As I am a product of the ’50s your Monaro brings back many Holden, Ford and Valiant discussions. I love the central focus on the tacho as every 20 year old back then added at least a tacho to the car as it genuinely gave another 15 kph performance.
Unwanted Sparkling Red - Oxleyroad. Great image. Each time I look at this I see a top shelf image that could grace the inside of a major food/living magazine. I like how the image is handled and what it is seemingly saying to me.
The Bay - Kevin Caulfield. Excellent use of the square format, so much so with the elongated foreground the illusion is of a slight rectangular feel to the print. Thanks for the interesting history as well.
Interface - SMBooth. There is so much to consider with this image. The choice of long exposure, the central rock formation that instils a sense of danger because it is uneven and the mystery of the calm on the right hand side sheltering from the chaos on the left side. Well done.
Cape Conran, Cowrie Bay - Munz6869. Great interpretation of a challenging subject. Your composition immediately guides me as I explore the geology and the reflections. The haze at the end of the image has me wondering what is around the corner. I like that feeling.
Thanks everyone for the effort, it has been a great experience to view and handle the work of others.
