As we know, oftentimes devices are sold as "scanners" which, in fact, are digital cameras which make a fast photography of a transparency. Results can probably be satisfactory for many uses, but they are not up to the quality delivered by "real" scanners such as the Canon, Konica-Minolta and Nikon ones (not to mention other higher-end makers).
As we all know, Canon, Konica-Minolta and Nikon appear to have ceased production of their scanners. That leaves us with the second-hand market, where prices have gone up quite a bit recently.
I just saw this product:
Reflecta ProScan 7200 - Film/Slide Scanner
Am I wrong in hoping that this is a "real" scanner? Resolution is high (3600 dpi, I hope it's the real resolution and not the interpolated one) and scan time is slow (more than one minute) so this makes me think this is a scanner actually performing a scan of the slide rather than taking a digital picture of it.
This seems to be good news.
Did anybody have any experience with this device? Is "Reflecta" an actual manufacturer or is it just a brand name for a product sourced by another producer?
Fabrizio
PS Did some fast search on the Internet. The scanner is on the market since more than one year. An interesting review here:
