We are finalizing our itinerary for November this year. We will be in Cairns and will snorkel or introductory dive at the Great Barrier Reef, so which underwater camera for a one time use to get? We have two disposables but should I get a Nikonos and which lens? Other film camera? Underwater digital? I am open to ideas.

Make sure while ya here to go to places that arent on the tourist map, other wise you will just see other tourists. Towns that have a top, bottom and middle pub, where they serve Parmigiana, salt and pepper calamari/ squid, Flathead and chips, and steak any way you want, where the barmaid calls you luv, theres at least one dog loyally sitting out the front and only dress code is you must wear pants. Plenty to see and do have fun in “Straya

Maybe don't fiddle with a camera underwater. I watched at least one thousand people watch Old Faithful geyser go off last summer. Everyone was staring at their damn cell phones, I'm not sure they saw it until they got back to the car.
I hammered some shots with my F5, but that took a few seconds . Don't fret about "missing" a photo.
I shot Fujichrome and auto-bracketed 1/2 stop. That was a wise decision, the bracketing, not slide film

I got great shot with my Hasselblad at Old Faithful. I am thinking about using an underwater disposable camera.

We are planning a month in Australia and we would like advice on how much time in each part or city, and which cities. Also is May or end of September and October better? We are interested in architecture, national parks and landmarks, and of course your amazing wildlife.

We may tie this trip to your close neighbor New Zealand which is just a 4200 km away.
It not good for you Steve to spend a month upside down :D

I am worried about getting my butt splashed when the toilets flush backwards.

:D We’re a pretty smart bunch down here... with drought ever lurking and not wanting to waste precious water consider our flushing toilets, if you actually come across any, as as “multifunctional bidets”! Enjoy your trip - your itinerary certainly takes in much of what we have to offer...

I'd go with a waterproof digital. good for water and safe from beach sand so win win. also hope you get to spend lots of time in Melbourne, its the greatly under appreciated Aus city (better than Sydney imo, sorry Sydneysiders). If you can swing it, Adelaide is a wonderful place to visit, and if you have LOTS of time, get thee to Kangaroo Island (your Hasselblad will love the Remarkable Rocks). have a great trip, I'm due to go down with SWMBO on her next trip home to visit fam.

In the southern hemisphere, the water swirls down the plughole in the reverse direction.
An urban legend that I want to test one of these days...

Kayak up the Katherine Gorge! One of my best memories of Australia. Plus, lots of rock art and only freshwater crocs. Watching the Wet arrive from a lookout rock in Kakadu National Park is next. I have not been in the Center, West, or south of NSW. Lots of time in New Zealand -- covered it fairly well...both islands (plus Stewart Island). All this was decades ago.
