Just took possession of a Beseler 23CII and have a couple of questions that a search nor a reading of the manual didn't explain.
1.) What's the thing hanging off of the left side of it with the two shiny metal things for?
2.) I seem to have a filter in the unit somewhere; the light coming out is very red but there is no filter in the filter holder. I think one slipped down towards the lens or something. Is there more than one filter location besides the thin tray behind the name plate and the one that swings out below the lens?

OH...how cool. I just realized that this is a slide out red filter.

I'm really liking this enlarger much better than my Printmaker 35 or the B22. It's MUCH beefier than either of them are.

That "thing" is a filter holder. There is a piece that slides out from under the lens that holds the filter.

Which also answers your 2nd question. More than likely, there is a red filter in that sliding holder.
