We like to keep this forum as free of conflict as possible. Disagreements are fine, as long as they're discussed maturely. In order to achieve this, it may sometimes help to just not see the contributions of (a) specific person(s) if you notice they consistently 'push your buttons'. This is what the 'Ignore' function is for. You engage it by navigating to one of this person's posts, clicking their user name and selecting 'ignore'.

From here on, if you navigate a thread that includes one or more posts by people you have put on your Ignore list, you will receive a message at the end of a thread alerting you that there's content in the thread by people you're presently ignoring. You can then still view that content by actively choosing to do so.

AFAIK, it's not possible to place moderators or administrators of the forum on ignore. You will always see their/our posts (sorry.)

When ignoring people, please do so because it helps you to make the most of this forum. This implies that engaging the Ignore function is not a viable means of having the final word in a discussion or to somehow drive home your argument by posting something along the lines of "I'm putting you on ignore now for posting stupid stuff" etc. We will generally remove posts along these lines because they contribute to diatribe and conflict, which is in disagreement with the forum rules and achieves the opposite of what the Ignore function is intended for to begin with. Feel free to ignore people if there's no other way to deal with them and accept or tolerate their contributions to this community, but do so in silence. Thank you.

Of course, we hope that this function continues to be used only sparingly in the awareness that it's OK to have different views sometimes (or even much of the times), and that such heterogeneity of opinions is what keeps a discussion platform alive in the first place.

I appreciate this function and have put four members on ignore since coming here 19 years ago...remember Scarpitti?

I especially appreciate that when someone else quotes the ignored member, I don’t get to see what is quoted which is something some other forums do.

Have never once clicked on the read ignored content button 👍
