Hello from frozen Minneapolis where the temperature outside is -10F. The basement where I am typing is a little warmer, but not much.

I've been photographing a long time. I got started by lugging a Calumet 4x5 around Houston in order to make Azo contact prints. I still get a thrill when precisely lining up an exposure on a 4x5. However, most of my work is done with a camera that's become a part of my anatomy - a 1976 vintage SL66.

Most of my pictures are small landscapes in direct sun done below the horizon. Stieglitz once said that when he made a photograph, he made love. That's where I am. And I love the desert most of all.

I found APUG when doing an internet search on APX100 and D23. I couldn't believe all the stuff going on here. So many people doing so many different things with so many opinions and so many images to look at. I did post a couple of pictures, but mostly I just sit back and listen to the beautiful noise coming from this peculiar spot on the internet.

Greetings Steve,
A belated welcome to APUG from another Twin Citian (I'm in St. Louis Park). I see you've actually been a member for several months now, almost as long as I have. You can tell we've had relatively mild winters of late when a Minnesotan makes -10 degrees sound cold.

"A Beautiful Noise"? Yes it is, even despite my adding the occasional discordant note.

Minus 10°? W-w-welcome, St-st-steve.

It was 13°F at my place here in New Mexico this morning. Toasty by your standards.

Welcome Steve.

I'm always amazed at how often a google search on some random photographic item or topic brings me right back to APUG.

Hope to see you participate here. It's an indoor activity

That's nothing to my amazement to how often it brings me right back to one of my own posts here on APUG!

I'm 3rd generation. Always wanted to make a trip back to where it all started - Sundalsora. Are you saying the winter is the best time? Will I need a coat?

Sunndalsøra is famous for having occasional days of over 20°C in the winter. But the general climate in western Norway is warmer in the winter - the rest of the year is just wetter

A coat is always a good idea. A raincoat is an even better idea!

The writer, Wright Morris, once said that sanity is only granted to those who have had to live with snow falling on their bare heads. We try not to hold this against those of you from Florida, Arizona, etc.

BTW, there's a webcam overlooking Sunndalsora. Just the thought of hitting the magic 68F in the winter has gotten me thinking about using one of those images as wallpaper (PC wallpaper) instead of the usual sandy beach...
