8x15 pano camera with film holder...

There is a fellow on Ebay that keeps selling these 8x15 pano ULF camera. At first, they were selling for about 200 bucks, but now he is selling them for 475 and they come with one film holder and one lens board. You could easily cut down 8x20 sheet film and probably make this camera workable for you. I am thinking of buying one, but cutting film has always been a pain, and I dont know if it would fit properly into the film holder he has. Also, the camera really does not have any movements.

If anyone is interested, check it out. Its a risky purchase and may take more investing to make it work. Also, I shoot 8x10...and I dont think its worth the effort and time to get only 5 more inchs of negative. I guess I would rather save that 500 bucks toward a realk ULF camera.

Looks like it has the standard moves of most of the cameras of the older era, front tilt, rear tilt, front rise, alot of the older cameras didn't have alot of movements, and for what this camera was designed for, it has the norm..

This would be a gold mine for someone willing to put a hundreds of hours of work into it to turn it into a real ULF camera. A great starting point though. Had I not bought all of those other cameras I might have bought this one. One odd film holder is a real problem and getting any ULF film holders causes a person to either get on their fine wood working skills or dig deep into their pockets.
My advice is to wait for a real one and spend the money on some holders.

I have a customer who purchased on of these. She did not seem to have any complaints about the transaction but the funk factor here is pretty high. Obviously you will need to fabricate a tripod mounting plate. Her camera is no worse than my ancient Korona in terms of materials or fabrication. It smelled like it had been storage for a long time, and everything worked but... the holder is really a plate holder, (she gets around this by using a spacer) and the method for mounting it to the camera is unconventional. I would PM Sandy King and ask how much another holder would set you back. Do you really want to invest in holders for a format that makes 12x20 and 7x17 look conventional? As far as 8.5/15 vs 8/10, well, it looks quite a bit bigger to me. (1.5x the surface area) ymmv...

This seller has been around for quite a while and has a 100% feedback rating, They sold alot of Raja 8x10 last year, and everybody seemed to be happy with them, as far as paypal if you don't get an item, you can file a complaint and they will refund your money after a certain amount of time, albeit a long wait..

hahaha! Im trying to get into ULF for an affordable price. At nearly $6,000.00, that is THREE times the value of my truck! Thanks, but not in hundred years could I afford a camera like that. I am a student.

Ehhh. These cameras seem too odd. Im not going to waste my money, and just keep saving up for when Jim Chinn finishes his ULF camera. I am positive that would be a smarter idea.

The guy has several other ULF cameras, but they are all weird sizes! Not a single one is anything close to normal. He has a 12x17 and 11x15 too. I realized none of them have tripod mounts, nor are the film holders really something useable without modifications.

I think it is a fine piece of equipment and the fact that it is a plate holder is perfectly fine, since I will be shooting plates. The finish is great and movements are smooth. The tripod plate was no issue since I just used some 1" washers on bolts through the gaps in the turntable base into some 3/4" plywood which I then screwed a quick release plate to. Works great.

For 475 bucks, I get a tripod mount. Especially since 475 Amurican is about 1600 dollars in equivalent Indian ruples.

Jeez.

I think I'll stick with the 8x10 Deardorff and consider myself blessed.
