After a long hiatus doing other things, I've started shooting 8X10 again. I'm almost out of an old batch of Arista Ortho Litho film, and am looking for alternatives.

One possibility is Ultrafine dupe film. I've checked the product description here:

http://www.ultrafineonline.com/ulcotodufi.html

I notice it can be used with both red and amber safelights, so I'm wondering if it's blue sensitive only? I want ortho because I'm planning some work with a yellow filter. Also, can it be processed to yield a normal negative? I called their information line, but the rep I talked to seemed to think it was direct positive only. Also, for anyone who has used it, will it fit in standard film holders without trimming?

Also, has anyone done continuous tone work with Utrafine's Ortho Litho film? The rep didn't seem to think it would work very well with that.

Finally, the new APHS from Freestyle could be on option. I've seen some examples of that posted here. The film I'm almost out of is an older Ortho Litho emulsion that they don't sell anymore.

Thanks in advance.

Freestyle Photo still carries at least one of their Ortho Litho films in 810. Why not stick with them? They can be developed to full scale as often exhibited by Jim Galli.

Ilford may also have Ilford Ortho+, an in camera film of higher speed and longer scale tha Lith, in 810. I have not checked lately. I have some from the past and always carry a few holders of it in the field.

Ultrafine continuous tone dupe film is blue sensitive ortho for duplicating xrays
It is sloooowww in duplicating- half or less than the OP Kodak dupe film.
No, I never used it for anything else. Not as contrasty as lith so should be easier to tame.

I have a page with some photos done with the APHS Dead Link Removed. There is a link on that page to an earlier page where I have my developer recipe. Best of luck.

I've been very satisfied with Ilford's Ortho Plus film in both 4x5 & 8x10. B&H sells the 8x10 for $84.95 & 4x5 for $27.95...

Jim, I ordered the Benzotriazole and Potassium Iodide for your recipe from Photographer's Formulary and received it in powder form. Is there anything special that needs to be done when dissolving them to make up the solutions?

No, these both go into solution very easily and the powder should last for years. I'm still using my original powders I bought from Artcraft 15 years ago.

dissolving bzt

I keep my stock 1% of this organic antifoggant in ethyl alcohol (gas line antifreeze for those native to cold climates). I add a pinch of sulfite to guard against any surface oxidation.

The stuff I have is in a very finely divided needles form. I measure it by holding the openned bottled over the measuring paper/ dixie cup on the scale and pull tufts out of the bottle with tweezers.
