I was sitting in my office minding my own business when a "friend" came in the door with a black case(19"x26"x7").Placed it in front of the counter and said "Here you use it I don't have the time" and walked out. Inside is a Eastman 2D with extention and in beautiful condition. 1, A Goerz DoubleAnastigmat Series111 No. 3 foc 8 1/4 #160789 in a shutter mked Germany.Stops US 3-128 looks like Alum.air release. 2, Wollensak Velostigmat series 11 F.4.5 Focus 12" (0-5) #81349 In dial set regular shutter 1-100. 3, Voigtlander & Sohn AG Heliar 36cm 4.5 on a board no shutter.( F4.5-25 maybe a process lens?) I've been happy in my own little 35mm and med format world. The only 8x10 I've ever done was build a pinhole camera for that format. So I ask "what do I have"? I'm not asking monetary value but I'm more interested in what are these lenses?. I've been trying to find info but am not the greatest using a computer. The trouble part is I sold off my darkroom equipt a couple of years ago and now might have to start shopping again.ha. So how is your day going? Regards,Bill

I wish I had friends like that!

You obviously have an 8X10 camera with a moderate wide angle (8 1/4---210 mm) a normal lens (12--300mm) and a moderate telephoto (360 mm).

Inasfar as darkroom, a lot of people are contact printing 8X10 negatives. A contact print is often considered the epitome of a photographic print. So all you need are some trays to develop film and the same trays could be used for developing prints. The chemicals to develop film and paper. You will need a safelight and a contact printing frame or sheet of glass to place on the negative and paper during exposure. A light bulb to expose the paper during printing. Edward Weston made some very nice prints with nothing more elaborate then this.

If this intrigues you then I encourage you to go and have fun. Gallup has some very nice places to photograph nearby...at least that is what my memory tells me.

sounds like a great setup for some 8x10 portraits. All three lenses are pretty sweet.

What a sweet kit! I have the identical camera. And 2 out of 3 of the same lenses. OK, I have all 3 but don't use the Dagor much. Here is some of what you can expect from the Velostigmat, and here are some done with a Dead Link Removed. Both of those lenses do double duty as very sharp very smooth lenses at small apertures, and at wide apertures they have a gorgeous look for portraits.

Then search the web for details on Edward Weston's darkroom. You'll need a lightbulb hanging from the ceiling on twisted wires, and 3 trays.

A Kodak 2D is the antidote to digital cameras. Check out the rest of the goodies at my web page. About 80% has been done with a Kodak 2D. It's the camera that rides around in the truck with me most of the time.

Hold on now, Bill! Are you sure this so-called friend has good intentions? Why, it could be infected with "ULF-itis", a highly contagious and incurable disease that turns normal, responsible people into raving fiends with brown stained fingers and a perpetual, dark-cloth squint.

Of course it could be simply a fine bit of photographic apparatus, but you can never be too careful! It sounds like this device needs extensive. lengthy testing and my rates are very reasonable!

But seriously folks, man what a friend.

Bill, is it? And others are free to quote me... I hate you.

Oh, wait a minute. Did I say the "hate" word? I meant... I HATE you!

Hey, it beats a "free" puppy!

Dunno, there would be less cleanup, but the frustration could be legion.

Keep your arms and legs inside the ride and have FUN!

Nice camera, Bill. But, there's a little known fact that no one is telling you. It won't work south of Rio Rancho, so you might as well send it "up north" to me.

yup! it is junk. send it to me! sreiously, great luck my boy! i just received my first 8x10 2 days ago, it is a 2D! i love it! i have shot 7 images so far. the 1st 3 where WAY under exposed because i forgot to add for bellows extension on some portraits i was doing. but the outside "normal" shooting look AWESOME! i iwll print and scan today. my changing bag is abit small. it is tough to get the film box, and 4 holders in at the same time. well have fun! and becareful LF is very addicting!

He
Your friend must be very sick!
But if she is to large for you and the lenses to heavy just send it to me!
You are lucky to have such friends mine only bring me a bottle of wine sometimes!
Take care, Armin Seeholzer

What a great kit! We should all have such friends. When you're all set up, you could offer your friend a portrait, but then they might want it back.

If you want some info on getting into LF, take a look at the articles at lfphoto.info and you might pick up Steve Simmons' introductory book _Using the View Camera_.

E Weston used a 60w bulb with a single sheet of toilet paper wrapped around it, you did get a nice gift from your friend, enjoy it in good health. Pat

Some people have all the luck. I had to BUY my 2D – cost me the thick end of 200 quid (2Ds are quite exotic this side of the pond). And it didn't have any lenses with it, not even old ones. :-(

Enjoy!
