8 x 10 fresnel lens

i am looking for a fresnel lens for my 8 x 10 toyo 810m . has anyone purchaused one for globlematers on e bay? where else can i find one.

I HAVE bought a 5x4 screen from Mr Wang, I had delivery problems, I'll finally get the screen next week after ordering it last June (it's been waiting in the UK since January). I'll see how god the screen is next week.

My 10x8 Agfa Ansco came with a brand new unused Beattie Screen and it's superb, I'll compare the Globalmatter screen to it & my Cambo screen next Tuesday.

Have you tried Staples or Barnes and Noble? The print magnifying pages they carry work fine on the back of 8x10s.

There's a huge difference between that option and a god Beattie/Maxwell etc screen.

Tracy Storer at Mammoth Camera Company had fresnels at one time, and he has a good reputation in the business.

But as Ian said, there is a big difference between a cheap fresnel lens and a Maxwell screen. I have a Maxwell on my Technika, and I have always considered it well worth the cost.

One other consideration: If you install a fresnel on the inside of the camera, between the gg and the lens, you must adjust the lens:gg distance. A Maxwell screen is constructed differently, and there is no need to adjust lens:gg distance after installing the Maxwell.

I agree with Outwest and Ian. There is a difference, although I do not consider it huge, but the full page magnifiers do work. I see little difference between the 8x10 page magnifier I have and the Intenscreen I have on a second camera. The low cost of the page magnifier eliminates my concern about scratches as they are cheap to replace. How much brighter is the full page magnifier than plain ground glass? About 2/3 of a stop according to my spot meter.

Hi folks,
the main reason I got into the idea of supplying fresnels is that my former supplier (Edmund Optics) stopped carrying the large fresnels I was using to outfit the 20x24 cameras. I found another supplier and have ordered several in several sizes and focal lengths. I freely admit that I have used page reader type lenses for 5x7 and 8x10, they do the job, but are not quite as nice as some others. I offer it as a service for the folks who don't understand what is needed or don't want to do the legwork to find the rigtht thing.
I was disappointed that the small lenses from my supplier are so expensive, but there is a lot of variety in the smaller sizes to tailor for normal / wide / super wide shooting.
There are not a lot of options for fresnels for ULF, so I'm happy to supply them to the fair few that have actually contacted me since I started offering them. Would you believe, 3 orders?

They sell these as plastic window applications in many stores and you can get 8x10 sizes. We have had several over the years.

I tried Staples in the UK (as I'm visiting) but they no longer sell those fresnels in their stores, there is an online supplier of fresnels & screens in the US but he is most definitely NOT to be recommended, there are threads about him on this site and LFPinfo.

Try an RV supplier. They are used in RVs to assist in rear view.

The fresnels used for backing / parking vans and RVs are negative focal lengths (divergent) and not what is needed for "screen brightening". A negative FL fresnel will actually worsen the "hot spot".

I've purchased from these people with good service. Their superfine fresnels are good - you just have to cut them down. I think I purchased the #F550 (under Large Fresnel Lenses) and it works great. The 200mm focal length would probably be good for wide angle lenses. Get the optical acrylic ones... the PVC ones are thin and soft, but cheap, so good for experimenting with.
