I'm looking for long and narrow trays to process 7x17 film and paper. This, to maximize chemical use and darkroom space. Ideally, they'd measure 8x18 or 9 x 20 etc...

Any suggestions?

try the storage departments in various mall type stores, i.e. Walmart, target, K-mart, container store, that kind of thing. they have a variety of storage containers that may do the trick for you.

If you can find a good sheet metal shop that does stainless steel, they could make them for you. I doubt it would be cheap, but if you conserved on chems it might pay off in the long run.

Just a suggestion.

Hi Dan,

Here in the states, WalMart and KMart carry various storage containers that are very close to the dimentions you require for that sized film, they are made by rubber maid and have snap on lids as well, very impermiable to chemical absorbtion and pretty inexpensive.

MFG tray company makes good long trays that work very well for me. They are available from a place called Usplastic.com. I don't know about availability of trays in Canada, though. You may want to go to the MFG website and see if they have a listing for distributors in Canada.

Run down to your local garden supply store and pick up some seed starting trays. They're usually styrene plastic, about 9 x 19 inches long.

The only problem is that they're pretty thin, so you need to nest two of them together so they'll carry 2 or 3 liters of liquid without breaking up when you lift them.

For about $2 apiece, they make simple, readily available panoramic format trays. Just make sure you don't get the kind with drain holes punched in the bottom....

Hey Reinhold,

Just noticed your in Washougal, I grew up in Hazel Dell, just north of Vancouver....you guys still growing by leaps and bounds over there?

Dave

Build your own out of thin plywood or masonite and fiberglass them, not that hard to do.

Howdy, Dave...

Yep, Washougal is out of control. The hills above Camas/Washougal are almost stripped. Tier after tier of obscene mansions now decorate our once dramatic northern backdrop.

The exploiters (oops, sorry... they call themselves "Developers") submit plans for building permits so fast that the Washougal Building Department buys rubber stamp ink by the gallon.

You can't tell that I'm pissed, can you...
