I rarely use even a 90mm on 4x5 and use this even less so have decided to convert this to cash for consumables.
The 72SAXL offers the greatest coverage of any modern lens in the 72mm-75mm range with a 115º angle of view (226mm image circle at f/22). It's an outstanding very-wide on 4x5 and uber-wide on 5x7, although it allows for only very modest movements on the larger format. It is not a small lens - it takes 95mm filters and weighs 557 grams with caps and retaining ring. The flange focal length is 84.9mm, a bit longer than any other 75 I know of except the f/6.3 Super-W-Komura (which can barely cover 4x5). I was able to use it on a flat lens board on my Canham MQC with the 4x5 back adapter and bag bellows - YMMV.
This one is in excellent condition with clean clear glass and just a few signs of use on the exterior. It comes with retaining ring and Schneider caps. The all-black Copal 0 shutter operates in all modes, the speeds sound appropriate, and my black-and-white negatives were properly exposed. The only issue is that I can't unscrew the front cell from the shutter. The lens is square all around so I'm confident the front cell isn't cross-threaded, but it's really tight and it's hard for me to grip the large lens barrel and the shutter with its various fragile protrusions. It was this way when I got it and I simply used it rather than obsessing or possibly damaging it.
My $875 $830.10 asking price includes insured US shipping and PayPal fees; for international buyers the price is or $850 $805 plus actual insured international shipping. Non-US buyers please keep in mind that insured international shipping is not cheap and you may have to pay import duties and/or VAT. I will not mark this as a gift or otherwise undervalue it for international shipping documents as this limits my ability to insure it, and I will not ship it anywhere uninsured.
