I asked one of the sites selling X-ray stuff about their 70mm reels. They checked the price of Hewes 70mm reels and that was pretty high like I expected. But they sell plastic reels for less then $9 US. I figured at that price they would be flimsy and not designed to last. Well they showed up today and I swear you could beat somebody to a bloody pulp with them. Thick heavy duty plastic.

Now just to figure out the best way to use these things. Maybe I can find a tray that isn't too much bigger then the reel.

What are the dimensions of the reel and where did you find them?

I have one of those, Nick. Works great, but dosen't hold a full 15 feet, unless you wrap it a couple of times around the outside of the reel.

Try finding tupperware that will fit the reel. I use mine in a 70mm Kindermann daylight tank. It fits just as well as the original 70mm Kindermann reels.

I think they said the reels were for 13'? They could have gotten Hewes 15' reels but at $125 for each Hewes reels I figured 13' would be okay -)

While at the supermarket today, I picked up a couple of plastic circular tubs of ice cream. When emptied out  those would be -perfect- for the 70mm x-ray reels. Made of clear plastic, but sturdy.
