I was digging around, and found my old reloading equipment. I discovered that I have a 100ft roll of ilford FP4, unexposed that's from 2003. Is there any hope for this film? Or should I not even bother trying to salvage it?

If it was kept away from humidity and extremes, go for it. Load a few frames and see what it does.

It's probably at least "usable," and most likely "OK."

7 year old FP4

I have two 100 foot rolls of this film in my freezer.

It should be fine, shoot and process a test to ensure it is.

I've used FP4+ older than that, between 12 and 15 years old, stored at room temp (meaning hot in summer, colder in winter), and it was fine.

Go out (or stay in) and shoot it, it will be OK.

This may or may not be important but might sound nit-picky. If it is genuine FP4 it was last made in 1989. FP4 Plus then replaced it. If it is only 7 years old I think you have a good chance of getting good negs. If it is FP4 and so at least 21 years old then it's more problematical but same advice applies. Try a short length and take it from there.

I do have some FP4 (not +) I acquired in some Leica Cassettes. It appears to be the reload variety with FP4 perforated into the leader. When I process will I be able to get an age from the edge markings ?
I intend to send some at least to Ilford for processing.

As it's FP4+ and assuming that it has been kept in reasonable conditions which you will know the answer to as you have had it since it was a baby so to speak :D: then the answer's simply: Use it without worries. I'd be amazed if it shows the slightest sign of deterioration.

I recently used up my last roll of TMY with expired date of 2002.

Worked fine!

I recently tested some 1995-vintage FP4+ for a friend who rediscovered a cache in her freezer. It had accumulated 1/3 stop of fog, but otherwise performed well. I advised her to ignore the fog and use it.

Fog, Fog?

That goes away after a glass or two of wine.

Now I see it, now I don't!

Smiles!

I'm using up 2 boxes of Plus-X 4x5 that was not stored in a fridge. It expired in 1989 and aside from a small amount of base fog is still usable.
