6x9 folder that makes a true 90mm long image

As all of you know MOST "6x9" cameras DO NOT produce an image 90mm long.

I looked through my collection of 6x9 cameras and measured them and found the following;

1. Fuji GW 690 III image length 80.4mm
2. Medalist II " " 81.1mm
3. Kodak 620 Junior " " 82.7mm
4. Moskva 5 " " 84.7mm
5. Super Ikonta 531/2 " " 85.2mm
6. Zeiss Ikon 514/2 " " 90.0mm *NOTE 90mm*
7. Four different Graflex
roll film RH-8 backs of
different vintages. " " 77.8mm
" " 78.0mm
" " 81.7mm
" " 83.4mm

The ONLY 6x9 camera I own that produces a TRUE 90 mm long image is a Zeiss Ikon 514/2 Cocarette. THE REST produce EIGHTYish mm long negatives!!

The membership of this forum with 6x9 folders is astonishing. I come to you with this question. I would like to purchase a "6x9" folder to produce TRUE 90mm long images for contact prints.

WHAT BRAND of folders do you folks know of that will produce a TRUE, NO KIDDING, MEASURED 90 mm long image on film?

There was also a thread that discussed the image dimensions of different 6x9 cameras, I can't find it. Anyone know which thread this was?

Sam, as you've discovered 90 mm is a will o'the wisp. The format was, I think, invented by EKCo as 2.25" x 3.25" and was a roll film format. 6x9 is a lousy metric approximation to 2.25" x 3.25".

There is a European format, nominal 6.5 x 9. I believe it is a sheet film format and that there's no modern roll film for it.

Get yourself one of these. It's not a folder, but still very compact. It has a very wide lens which limits it's utility, but it's really a great camera.

The US cameras like Dan mentions aren't 6x9. But even if they were the 6x9 includes the rebate. It's no different then sheet film.

Just to add another one for reference--

Linhof Super Rollex 6x9 back--57x85mm

At some point I measured the dimensions of various 2x3" sheet film holders (should be in a thread here or on the LF forum), and as I recall, Graflex Type 5 wooden holders had the biggest film gate. 6.5x9 is larger, if it's not too much trouble for you to obtain film in that size and if you can find enough holders to make it worth your while, and the outer dimensions of the holder are the same as 2x3".

For the record, my Ercona II makes negatives of exactly 8,65 x 5,7 mm.

How about an AGFA Standard? I inherited one from my grandfather, and am just finishing off my first roll.

FWIW, as the short edge of the image is only 56mm long, not 60, if you want the same aspect ratio (2:3) as 6x9 then you want something that gives you an 84mm long edge. Most formats are decided by the size of the film, not the image. In LF 8x10 and 4x5 are fractionally smaller than the size suggests and the image area is smaller again. For 4x5 I get a 3 3/4 x 4 3/4 image on 3 7/8 x 4 7/8 film.

This thread has reminded me to dig out my Moskva 5 for another spin soon.
