Well - I know 5x7 is a format wich is not in use much often.
This was still the situation 10 years ago
were I bought some Kodak E100G E6 packs in 13x18 cm as a very cheap offer.
It was exposed stuff but only exposed 2 - 3 month.
To this time I asked myself : "How many professionals are using this?
And how many will have a risk on high quality productions shootings with exposed stuff? "
The answer was simple to this time :
None of them will do this ! Therefore the best price ....!
But now all 5x7 in c41/E6 films are discontinued since years.
Is there any chance to manufacturers to relaunch this format.
In bw it is no problem to get it.
Ilford will assemble any format in bw on demand (from pre orders) so they anounced to all years still today as far as I know.
8x10 is also avaible in color to a couple of films.
But 8x10 is definitivly not the format to me - I have to state.
Could it be soo expensive to cut some 5x7 sheeds in adition to 4x5 / 8x10 cuttings wich are also with a very smal demand ?
I can't believe that the demand to 5x7 is on zero (in color).
What do you are thinking about it this ?
Is there anybody willing to shot some
color in addition to his bw 5x7 ?

Get some 8x10, cut it down to 5x7.

I was still waiting for this kind of answer:D...
But I also decided not to cut down my 5x7 E6 on 4x5 because I found out this is a possible mortal sin.

To cut down 8x10 could cause same consequences ...

Nonsense, I've done it many times. Superstition brings bad luck.
Plus, you can leave as the waste strip the part with notches, expose it under a negative, develop and have a neat bookmark. There's no downside.

Ahh I see - it can be used as a bookmark ....

By the time a kind of bookmark from films I should have somewhere.
A part of a IMEX in 70mm:whistling:.....
I have to look at it because to lose it
will also bring bad luck.

PS : No wonder why 5x7 is discontinued
( I've lost my IMEX stripe ..) :D:laugh::D

PS : Is Anyone still out there who would like to have also 5x7 for example from
New released Kodak Ektachrome.?
May be you prefer also 4x5 / 8x10 from this E6 film ?

I will buy 5x7 color film when it is offered for sale. If it is regularly available, I will use it regularly.

By the time do you remember last pricing on 5x7 color ?
My E6 13x18 was regulary somewhere in the near of $ 87,- but I was glad to get a special offer with much cheaper pricing.
If I remember correct E6 in 5x7 / 13x18 was OVER $ 200,- ....?:surprised:...!

with regards

PS : To $ 20,- a sheed of 5x7 in color I would not use it regulary :whistling:.....but
SOMETIMES.....:D !

Color 5x7 has not been available since I began in LF. I expect I will eventually shoot what is available in 4x5, but for the moment, it is not on my list of projects to achieve.

Do not waste the film, just buy and 8"x10" camera. What would you do if the only size available was 11"x14" or 16"x20"?

5x7 is a lovely format. I gave a friend all my 5x7 film holders and sold a old Ansco cheapo studio camera so I wouldn't be tempted again. The Ektachromes from that camera with a nice old Wollensak were beautiful.

Why would it be a waste? Sure, cutting an 8x10 sheet in half gives 5x8 (and I think Chamonix or someone makes or made a camera and holders in that size for just that reason) and you waste a one inch strip but that seems very minor.

If I wanted 5x7 color that's how I'd get it. I'm just content to shoot B&W in LF and go to MF for color.

I have an 8x10, with 5x7 and 4x5 backs. It's far simpler to cut down an 8x10 sheet, since I rarely use 5x7 at all.

You could take the excess pieces and make them 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" sheet film for and MF camera. :D

OK - it should be indeed the best way ......
So all of us with simulary intentions should hurry up because of the avaiability of 8 x 10 ....

In 2018 this might be the next problem  8 x 10 is on a big list of discontinue plans ( in color )

On the basis of an actual statement of fact or your fictive delusions?

More to the point, I recall Canham has run special orders for 5x7 Portra 160, 400, Ektar and TMY-II in the last few years. 5x7 is a minority format these days, but there's clearly enough interest for approx 15K USD orders to be made at moderate intervals. I'd like whole-plate Portra 160, but I have to be realistic about the potential market for getting that custom cut to size.

Oh ...I just notice I forgot to tell : E6 in
5 x 7 I would like to need most.
And exact here I like to see problems within the next 2 years.
Therefore my statement to prever 8 x 10 as the possible best way.
May be Kodak will offer new Ektachrome also in 4 x 5 inch. I could imagine that new decisions of Kodak will be smart in the future.
But to 8 x 10 I'll better not stake my reputation on it.(New Kodak Ektachrome).
In the other hand - why not ?
From my point of view there is no alternate in highest quality with digital equipment.
I remember some high resolution cameras from 2003 with more than 290MP. But it was not realy in high speed. More than 1'min. 45" sec. exposure time.
Same way is today if I am correct.
So 8 x 10 should be the max. resolution to some further years.
And I realy believe THERE IS STILL DEMAND TO SUCH FORMAT !

with regards

PS : But to me 5 x 7 (the proffessional format in Europe outside GB 13 x 18 cm)
is just enough format.... more is out of
finance realism.
