Can anyone with a 5 x 7 filmholder please let me have the external measurements?
The three measurements I need are;

thickness
length, measured from the raised ridge to the opposite end
width (height)

I measure my Fidelity Elite holders at 12.7mm thick, 194mm long to the end of the raised edge, and 150mm wide.

I just measured my Fidelity Deluxe holders, the version prior to the Elite, and they are slightly thinner at 12.1mm thick, but the other dimensions are the same 150mm x 194mm.

Remember, these holders are plastic and are not extremely rigid, but the t distance seems consistent at 5.8mm on both.

Thank you. Most helpful!
These are the same measurements as some half plate film holders I measured, so presumably 5 x 7 holders will fit in a half plate camera.

Thickness is not very important.

The outside thickness can vary considerably without consequence. See this post and the thread it's part of:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Hi Alan,

the modern half-plate, 5x7in, and 13x18cm holders have the same external dimensions, it is just the film guides that are different. I have a selection of each that I use in my 5x7 camera.

Thanks Snallan. Where do you get your half-plate film from?

Alan

I used to get Wephota film from Retrophotographic, but they no longer list it. Silverprint are now listing the Wephota films, but I think they are in the process of waiting for a new stock order.

They do 25 & 100 ISO pan films, and a couple of slower ortho films.

It is a shame that Ilford do full plate sizes in FP4+ and HP5+, but not the half plate.
