Hi all - one day I would love to shoot LF as I do mainly tripod work - scapes. I have the Cokin P system now, is that useable with 4x5 or would I need to move to the 100mm system? Not sure about the FL but I generally use between 24mm - 100mm in 135 format.

Cheers.

As long as you can cover the lens, you should be fine.

I have a Cokin P system. For most of the lenses that I use, a P system gets in the way and is just too big. Perhaps on a 90mm Super Angulon or a 210mm Symmar, it would be more suitable - Aside from those two, most of my other 5x4 lenses have a filter thread between 49mm and 58mm, so I've standardised on 58mm screw-in filters and fitted step-up rings to the lenses I use regularly.

Split grads are probably the most useful of all the Cokin filters, so despite using screw-in filters, I still pack a minimal Cokin set up when I think I might need a split grad.

I think I half answered this in the other thread before I saw this.
Anyway, I've got Cokin Z with 67 and 82mm adapters.
These suit me well for my Fujinon SWD 90, Symmar-S 180, and Tele-Arton 270 (I really should get a 72mm ring for my 210mm Symmetrigon too).

Smaller lenses like my Nikkor-W 135 has only 52mm threads, and my 65/8 Super Angulon has only 49mm (or 58mm with centre-filter), so Cokin A works fine for them (and will also on my 150mm G-Claron when I get a step-ring).

You could split the difference with Cokin P and have a lot of step rings on the smaller lenses, and be limited on the wider-end to slower lenses like a 90/8 Super Angulon (mine only has 67mm threads), but that may limit your shifting capabilities with more vignetting. You'll be fine with the normals, but then in longer lengths you'd be restricted to really slow (like Fujinon C) or telephotos to remain with P.

ps, check out the filter-thread size column here (newer, more expensive lenses), or here (Fujinon) to get an idea of the thread size you might be looking at.

I have the Cokin 100mm system for my 5x4 lens set. I have Nikkor-W or Nikkor SW 65mm, 90mm, 135mm and 210 mm lenses.
Except for the 135mm lens, these all have 67mm filter threads, so I fitted a 52-67mm filter adapter and a 67mm lens cap to the 135mm lens, both of which remain permanently attached, so I only have to carry a set of 67mm filters and the 67mm Cokin adapter. This system works well for the landscapes I shoot.
