4x5 Graflok back to 2-1/4 x 3-1/4

Hello,
I am wanting to use 2-1/4 x 3-1/4 film backs on my 4x5 camera and was wondering if anyone would know how I would do this or where I could get a reducing back to do this. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!

If you have a Graflok, you can shoot a roll film back on your camera, if your trying to shoot sheet film, you would have to have a back made to fit the graflok, I don't remember seeing a reducing back for this combination.

I think that Richard Ritter could make a reducing back for your 4x5 if you want to shoot 2.25 X 3.25 sheet film.

As Dave indicated, if your existing 4X5 back is Graflok or is Graflok compatible, there are a lot of rollfilm backs available that are graflok compatible.

Or I can recommend a quick roll slide back, like the one made by Toyo - fits all 4x5 Graflok backs, accepts any Graphic rollfilm back (like one from Mamiya RB, say), a really fast and convenient tool in use. Buy one if you can find it not overly expensive, you wouldn't be sorry.

I imagine, if you get a hold of Richard and tell him your idea, he could probably make just about anything you could think up, he is really good at manufacture, repair and modification.

For not much money nowdays you can get a 2x3 Graphic camera and probably use your lenses on it. Not only would it be cheaper then getting custom built items, but it would also be lighter and smaller to carry. Your other option is a 6x9 back for the Graflok and they are around.

Graflex actually made a 4x5 graflock back with a "23" roll film holder attached. I have one that I use on a Crown Graphic and it works great. Haven't seen any on Ebay that I can remember though so I imagine they might be a rare item.

A horseman back would be best, but for the price of one new, you could buy 3-4 2x3 baby graphics.

Even banged up they go for $200, but they are the best. I think the toyo roll film back is good too. Both of those have spring back pressure plates and have better film flatness.

The graphic backs area chice, but get the one with the lever handle. The knob handles have film flatness problems. I dont think any of those have spring pressure plates.

Thanks for everyones input so far. I should have clarified my intentions a little bit more... I want to shoot 2-1/4 x 3-1/4 sheet film and am not interested in shooting 6x9 roll film... I know all the arguments in regards to either way or why, but I just want to shoot the 2x3 sheet film... Thanks for all the input...

If your wanting to shoot sheet, your going to have to have a sheet film adapter made to fit your graflok back, I searched extensivly through my graphic corp information after posting last night and they don't list anything ever being made for this particular application your asking about, so your best bet is going to be getting a hold of Richard Ritter and see if he can make one for you.

I have not seen a gowland back for about 15 years, and I only seen it once, but that is good information to know, I am not interested in it, but it could help the guy out that is looking.

A long time back I saw a wooden reducing back on Ebay for using 2x3 sheet film holders on a 4x5 camera. I believe that it was Ok for my Wista Field. It actually sold very cheap. I thought about it but said why? I do use 2x3 sheet film with my 2x3 Century. In my opinion it's a PITA compared to roll film. Both to use and process.
