Anyone else running into this problem -

I have a newly purchased box of 4x5 Bergger Pancro400 that is close to 101mm wide, my Toyo 4x5 film holders seem to have a 100mm width. So, when a sheet of film is loaded it does not lay flat. I have Fidelity 4x5 holders that are wide enough to take the Bergger sheets.

Photo is of a sheet of Bergger on the bottom overlayed with a sheet of Ilford - the rub mark on the Bergger is from the film guide which matches the exposure on the sheet of Ilford.

strange they are find in fidelity and not toyo
makes me wonder if after the film is sized to fit in the toyo holders
if they won't fit in fideltiy holders, or other holders that are tne same width.

are toyo holders ansi standard ?

I just measured my 4 Toyo holders, they are all exactly 100.5mm. My Fidelity holders are all 101mm wide, at least the five I measured, were 101mm.

My Bergger 400 sheets sit better in the Toyo holders, meaning they are ever so slightly more centred, or to put it another way, when sitting and being transported for long periods in a landscape position in my camera bag, the film does not sink as far as when in a Fidelity holder. This is something I have noted with FP4+, FP5+ and Foma 400 4x5 film, not just Bergger.

I have no issue with either holders, but I really prefer the Toyo holders, they are just so well made and precise.

One niggling issue I do have with Bergger 400 film, is the notch. With some sheets the notch is quite a large "V", other sheets the notch is almost impossible for my unfeeling fingers to find in the dark when loading and wishing to place the emulsion side right way up. I am still on my first box of 50 sheets, so it isn't as though I have gone from one batch to another. The slight variations are probably more about the whole manufacturing operation firstly being relatively small compared to say Ilford, and secondly this is a completely new manufacturing operation.

I think the Bergger 400 is a wonderful film, currently I am wondering whether to change my portraiture film from FP4+ to Bergger 400.

Mick.

Final follow up, I received a replacement box of film very quickly from France - it is sized correctly and fits perfectly in the Toyo holders. I would rate the customer service from Bregger as first rate from my first contact with them through the replacement.
