Hey everyone!

So I've wanted to do some long exposures for a while now, but the #191 cable releases are so expensive! Then last night, I had the bright idea to 3D print an adapter so that you can use a standard cable release. Just a few hours later and it works great! Here are some pictures:

Here's the adapter. It's printed in white ABS. There is a standard 3/8" nut that is printed inside. This is the same thread size as a standard tripod mount. I don't think this is the best nut to use; from what I've read an M4 should thread better with the cable release, so I will stop by the hardware store and give that a shot. But the 1/4-20 nut does thread and hold tight with the cable release, so this does work.

Here's the inside. You can see that the nut is embedded in the print.

It's a very snug fit. Works great!

And a gif for good measure!

I'm going to try the M4 thread size, so this is still a work in progress. And your results may vary depending on your 3d printer calibration, my 3d printer calibration, etc. But here are the files on Thingiverse if you want to make one for yourself!

That's pretty cool - what holds it to the camera though?

My enlarger model never had glass carriers or registration, so I printed up my own glass carrier. Kinda felt like "well, here's the future"….
