Nothing anti-Chinese....but socialist/Communist governments are surely well known to subsidise manufacturing....not to mention sometimes right wing governments even do so when it suits them.

But the old Eastern Bloc had a long history of not caring much whether profits were made or not. The impetus was to get the products made and the employees paid. It's not a criticism. It is simply entirely possible that the Shanghai factory isn't required to make a profit. And near certainty that it isn't required to make a profit in the way that Harman, Kodak or even Foma are.

I didn't say I believed it. The only reason to need 220 is if you don't have high res digital and need to shoot a lot, fast, and get a very high information content per frame. Or you just like it.

Or artistic aerial photography and severe weather where re-loading film backs is a major disruption or chore...
