Boxes :

One of the big issues in our ULF run is that the boxes are only ordered once the film orders are in as our box maker ( bless his heart ) also compromises his minimum order quantities and makes them to order for us, they are actually made by hand for the ULF run, even so they have to be full photo quality. Some are the exact size, but since some sizes are very similar we pack out some to try and cut down the number of boxes so you may not get the exact size box, the actual size of the contents is clearly marked on the wrap around info label.

Thank you, Simon, and thank you, Roger.

That is so cool, that the boxes are the same-ish size as the film. Can you imagine a stack of 7x17 film boxes??? The thought sends shivers up my spine.

Four weeks to save up my pennies. So little time, so much film to order...

This will be my first time ordering from the special run too. I did however get a couple of last years left over 7x17 boxes of HP5+ film a few months ago from MPEX and I can tell you it's the same quality boxes as their regular line. If these are hand made, it sounds like we're getting a really good deal on these films. Make the best of it while its still here!

I compared prices on several films with several dealers on their sites/price lists. There are some strange variations in prices out there. Some even unbelievable strange. But it's their on their websites.

I recalculated all prices into EURO for easy comparing: EURO 1.00 = USD 1.30 and EURO 1.00 = GBP 0.85. All prices excluding taxes and excluding shipping costs.

Here it is:

Ilford_ULF_2013_Pricelist_compare.jpg
I checked it twice, but please let me know if I made any errors.
PM me if you want to receive the original Excel sheet through email.

Thanks for this. I live in a country that doesn't do this ULF special order so I'd like to order from the place that has bottom line prices. This comfirms MPEX has a pretty darn good deal compared with others. In my experience, their shipping fees are reasonable too.

Hello Lee,
What part of the world are you in?
You could ask Ilford directly for dealers in your country or nearby. You could check it on their site.
See: http://ilfordphoto.com/contact.asp
Or just email them (as I did) for a name/company in your country.

And don't forget to add shipping costs and import taxes. Especially import taxes can be a killer on a sweet deal.

I'm in South Korea. Korea is listed but prices of standard sizes are already twice what I could get from the states. I usually order several boxes of 5x7 from MPEX or freestyle and its still cheaper than buying that same order in Korea. I'm 99% sure I'm the only one in Korea shooting 5x7. I know I'm not the only one shooting 8x10 because I got our TA interested in 8x10 by developing xray in the darkroom. 99.99999% sure I'll be the only one doing 7x17. 4x5 is still used by a very select few. I may ask the Ilford distributor anyways and let them know how much I expect to pay MPEX. Maybe they can match it or less.

My last order from MPEX was around $300 and it breezed through customs with no taxes.

MPEX isn't listing FP4+ in 11x14, nice company but 11x14 FP4+ on the annual run, not.

Yes I did, no they didn't.

Anyone else ordered 122 size rolls? Last time I asked they only had 5 orders... maybe they have more now, but the minimum was ten.

As far as I was told they didn't get enough order "by a long shot" to do the 122 order, they needed a little more than twice as many I think is what the rep at Freestyle told me if I recall correctly. Anyway the mixup was on 70mm only, there was just a miscommunication and it turned out they had counted wrong and actually had enough orders, so they were giving this window for 70mm only to re-ordder.

Sorry about your 122, maybe next year you can organize something like this in a thread and get more people aware of it. I almost ordered a 122 roll but the 70mm took precedence, and since I only PLAN on buying a 122 camera but don't actually have one, I couldn't justify the cost. And now that I have a 4x5 camera, I don't know that I'll ever shoot 122 since it's pretty close in size. The people who ordered the 122 must have some really nice cameras, all the 122's I've seen (which aren't many) didn't seem like anything special. Educate me  (but on another thread haha).

I ordered a roll of 122. Was very sad to receive notice that there were not enough orders

As for camera, that 122 was destined for my Kodak Panoram 3A.

I was prepared to up my order to help, but it seems not enough others were.

The few of us that want it will have to make a lot more noise next year to try and bring out some other potential users...

Well a funny thing happened with the 70mm that they made a mistake and had enough orders and we had one day to agree to still order it, but a few people backed out and I posted everywhere, brought up old threads about 70mm and in the end the freestyle rep sake she got quite a few orders because of my posting and making noise and we made the numbers. I also discovered not as many people knew about the ULF or knew that they were doing smaller formats like 46mm and 70mm because the title is ULF .

Point is, next year create a poll and 122 thread here and on LF forum and even RF forum and organize to know how much people will order so you can figure out how much more you need.

Manifest your destiny sir

Good luck!

I was in the market for 18x24 cm film sheets, but didn't order due to the high prices. I'm not saying Ilford is too expensive, not at all. I believe they can't produce it cheaper in this declining market. But I just can't afford that kind of prices for making negatives.
So I'm looking into other possibilities like paper negatives or X-ray film sheets.

I'll save up for next year and try to participate.

Ironic since you're shooting 18x24 which in itself is inherently expensive haha.

What about 20x24 cut down the 2 inches your self? or find a way to modify the holder attachment to accept 20x24 size film holders and just center it? Or am I insane?

The camera can't be modified to accepting larger formats (at least not by me). It's a russian FLD plate camera.

BTW: it is 18x24 centimeters, not inches (about 7.11x9.49 inches). Sheet film 8x10 inch doesn't fit and photographic paper is easily available in 18x24 cm. I have made successfully paper negatives on Ilford B&W paper, removing the back layer and making it transparent with linseed oil.

And I don't feel comfortable cutting down other sizes: too much waist and to difficult in total darkness?

Anyone experience with cutting? How do you do this (scissors, cutting machine, ...)

I would do it like a fabric worker, get a board that clamps down, put film and a template on top of the film, then use a rolling cutter (similar to a pizza cutter but much sharper) and cut on the template line.

But I agree I don't like to do it either.

I thought it would be easier to modify the back of the camera, it looks pretty easy to do, takeof the back of the wood and put the hinge on an new extended hinge that goes over the new wider film holder.

But anyway, I would simply start using a different camera, sucks that you can't get the film, it does look like a really sweet camera to use

did anyone compile a list of what roll sizes will be made? My dealer told me that they were close on the 46mm and asked me to add another roll. But I have not heard any further. I will either have to come up with more money or get some money back I guess.

I heard, before the program closed, that the minimum order was met for 46mm in HP5+.

You should not be required to order more than you want.
