I unknowingly bought a bottle of TMAX that expired in 2008-09. It's the first time I've used TMAX and my negatives came out very thin with a pink tint. I developed everything at 68F with correct times (3 different films, same outcome). The top of the bottle was on tight, would ca 1 year cause this? Also, what is Replenisher?

Thanks in advance
Andrew

Replenisher is a chemical added to used developer to allow it to be reused. Mostly used in photo labs using big machines that have a big tank of developer that everything goes in; the machines usually are programmed to automatically add the right amount of replenisher after each batch of film goes through the tank.

If the developer is expired, yes that can cause the thin negs. Liquid developers do not have a long shelf life, unlike powders that do keep near forever if unopened. The pink tint is caused by underfixing or underwashing. If you used a Tmax film, keep in mind it needs longer in the fixer and longer wash than most traditional films. Kodak recommends 5 minutes in rapid fix for Tmax films instead of 2-3 minutes for films like Tri-X.

Tmax and Tmax RS(the one with the replenisher package glued to the bottle) are two different developers.Which one do you have?I've used opened Tmax up to 6 months after initial opening and it worked fine,an unopened bottle 1 year out of date is something I personally wouldn't hesitate to use.

I have just a bottle of TMAX w/o anything attached.
The bottle I have makes 1 gallon, if that makes any difference.
