It depens on where you are

One expensive option to consider
if you only want very small pieces
one option is glass slide mounts for 120 film.... I think I measured mine
(made in Holland or Belgium?) at 0.9 mm.

otherwise, again for expensve stuff, try a biological supply house....

I get mine locally and they can also supply it without the green tint
that nearly all affordable glass has.

If you're in Europe, at Silverprint we've got 8x10" glass this thickness, comes in packs of 20. We got them from the original Ilford company, they had a large quantity they wanted to dispose of. Very heavy in quantity, so probably not economic to ship to the States.

Could you tell me (here or by PM if that's better) their cost and weight?

I am pleasently surprised that they are 1 mm... I would have thought 8x10's would have been a bit thicker... Do you know anything about how Ilford were using them? What product line did they come from? Or, does anyone listening know what 1 mm glass plate products Ilford produced?

Acrylic scratches very easily, and is very staticky (=attracts dust), so I'd not advise it.

You might look at Quartz Scientific, that's where I get some stuff for my lab...

What size do you need?

8x15 & 12x15 inches. That may be too large for safe handeling of 1mm glass.
I have a crate of Kodak 8x10 plate film, 12 boxes of 12 sheets each. They are all 1mm thin. I guess some of it could be cut down to smaller sizes. I'm ready now to try single strength at 8x15; it it does not scratch from the slides 1mm would only lighten the load.

I just looked at the website of a dealer in technical glass. Floatglass 1mm is a stock item. So it can't be that hard to find. (If you can live with the standard green tint.)

We haven't put them on the website, it's been mainly counter sales to people prepared to carry them away themselves. They're £30 + VAT per 20 pack, weight is 3.2 kg per pack. We've got about 15 packs left.

We were told they had been ordered by Ilford for safelight filter manufacture, which rings true, as it was about then they dropped the range of safelight filters. I haven't looked at one to check but it's probably 2 glasses with a gel filter sandwiched between.

Here's a related factoid set, just for fun, but also because you may find an old plate holder that was sized for an expected standard.

From the 1960 edition of The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography p 1142.
Plate Sizes and Thicknesses:

2-1/2x3-1/2 (6x9 cm) => 0.04 - 0.05 in ( ~1.0 mm)
4x6 in (10x15 cm) => 0.05 in (~1.3 mm)
8x10 in (20x25 cm) => 0.06 in (~1.5 mm)
12x15 in (30x38 cm) => 0.08 in (~2.0 mm)

I have seen your site before - perhaps I just ran into it or perhaps someone pointed it out.

Anyway, your title mentioned AN glass, but I suspect most of the people here really want very very cheap clear glass,
which very cheap or not, it looks like you do carry.

One mistake I found, (a typo - at least I hope it is a typo) is:

I don't think you could sell 2 meter thick 4x5 inch glass for such a low price!

I found the site a bit hard to read... well perhaps I needed to spend more time looking it over... I failed to fully see what the names meant
(eg. HOPE in the above typo) I knew some names (such as LPL) but not others....

Yes, the site is a bit cumbersom with over 400 listing of glass sizes. I've got 30 years worth of manufacturers specs on glass in the store and it's gotten a personality of it's own. I'll fix the Hope listing. You're right 2mm glass thickness. That's why you see a few unfamiliar listings but I still get the occational inquiry for the old stuff.

FYI, Hope once manufactured one of the most popular film and paper processors for pro labs. They also made minilabs when that industry began.

To find a specific glass size I recommend searching on, for example, 4x5, or MS45 and it will return just that size to look through. Or if you have a particular manufacturer type that into the search window.

In the mean time you can always use the "contact us" feature and request a quote.

Here is another option for thin sheet glass – a whole glass supplier in my neighborhood (D&L Stained Glass – Denver) carries 1/16" thin float glass, which works out to be 1.6mm. Their retail price for a 30x40 sheet is 2.65, with price breaks for larger quantities. I haven't ever ordered this particular glass, so I don't know its characteristics, tin v. plain side, etc.
They are a wholesale shop, so you would need to have some sort of business license and set up an account.
They are great to work with.

Dollar Tree, a discount store in the US, has photo and document frames with glass. The glass measures 1.3mm with a digital caliper. I inspected several and liked the document frame glass.
