I saw someone with one of these and I want one, but after vigorous googling I am still left with no result. Anyone know where I can get one?

Neither that hat or Tshirt is going to be 18% grey after the first wash or walk in the sun. If I wore that shirt saying 18% grey on the front, people would think it was a very old shirt because I am more like 90% grey.

So we are talking about a hat that is the color the sky in Rochester New York?

I had 80 t-shirts made for the Kodachrome Project, they were 18% grey.
Even though folks liked them, the next batch might be a nice sand color.

The 18% grey of the back of my hand served very well until I moved to Turkey :D Now it varies between 18% in the early Spring to 25-30% by the next week or so it's no longer accurate enough

I like the hat idea as I usually have to wear one.

These days my hair must be about 18% grey. Metering off your own head is tricky though. :D The hat is a better idea.

Cool project. I linked to it on my student's blog so they can read about it. I'll have to make a slide show and show it on an actual slide projector for them next year of real Kodachrome images.

I am quickly nearing the 18% grey club as well...Probably about 5% now, but it's moving fast!

Don't wash the hat and take readings of the inside of the hat where sun does not shine.

My day would be complete if I had an 18% grey hat or shirt in bright yellow.

Size x-large for the shirt.

All light meters should be of the incident persuasion.

And bid a good bye to the Zone System?
All right, I like my incident meter( Sekonic L398), too. But I'm having trouble metering backlit situations. How do you do that? Ignore the backlighting, measure the orthograde light and expose 2 EV less?

Did you just tell him to stick his meter where the sun doesn't shine...:surprised:

In the shade? That way he can use it for Zone System measurement!

Yeah,
I have one of these hats. I got it from the George Eastman House.
It always gets commented on. Rather than try to explain, I just say my hair is 18% grey. This is about right, I suspect.
When I had my lung transplant, my poker buddies had a benefit for me. In the Evite, I was referred to as "Mister 18% Grey", for those who were not regular enough players to know my name.
