A recent medical scare has finally convinced me that it's time to shed weight, both my own and that of my equipment, so I'm I'm offering up a variety of my larger, heavier gear over the next few months. I've never used most of this stuff, it's sat in my safe awaiting my foray into 8x10 which, if it ever does happen, will now use lighter and slower lenses.
I got this very nice Repro-Claron in a barrel and put it into a Compound III-7 shutter that previously housed a 240mm Convertible Symmar; the cells fit the shutter with no modification. The glass is clean and clear with no obvious defects but have never used it so have no sample negatives or finished images. My artisanal hand-marked aperture scale is within 1/3 stop as verified with my QLM-calibrated Pentax digital spotmeter. It's mounted on a Toyo 110mm lens board. It operates quite repeatably on all speeds but the speeds are off according to a Calumet tester. The approximate speeds I measured at f/22 are:
Marked - Measured - Error
1 sec - 0.60 sec - 3/4 stop fast
1/2 sec - 0.30 sec - 3/4 stop fast
1/5 - 0.139 sec - 1/2 stop fast
1/10 - 0.072 sec - 1/2 stop fast
1/25 - 0.042 sec - 0.07 stop slow (basically perfect)
1/50 - 0.035 sec - 0.8 stop slow
1/75 - 0.023 sec - 0.8 stop slow
1/100 - 0.018 sec - 0.8 stop slow
You need to be careful how you operate a Compound shutter, they're easy to destroy.
The Repro-Clarons were Schneider's competition to the Goerz Red Dot Artar and I'm told by a reliable friend who's used one that the 14" will cover 8x10 at infinity and stopped down though I've never tried it myself. It takes a 55mm front filter, 57mm caps front and rear, and weighs 482 grams (1 lb 1 oz) in the shutter (the lens board adds a bit more) according to my kitchen scale. In addition to the lens board it comes with one generic lens cap and the retaining ring, as well as the original barrel.
The third picture shows the shutter in mid-operation when set to 1 second. It took a couple of tries...
I would like to get $295 and will cover US shipping and PayPal fees. Make me an offer if you think my asking price is way out of line. Or buy the lens cells in the original barrel mount (no shutter) for $150 shipped in the US.
