Has there been any disscussion about Ilford making a 400 speed 127 film say HP5?

I'm on vacation in San Juan with my grey 127 Baby Rollie and I wish I could have som HP5 for it.

I for one would buy 200 rolls if it were available on special order.

Efke was making 127 film and the new Rollei Agfa Retro 80s - 127 size is also spooled by them too. Well actually I do not know that for sure that is true but having used the Efke 127 film and the Rollei film I can say they sure look like the same place rolled them. There is a new ADOX 400 film coming out soon. Perhaps that could be made in 127. Ask ADOX as they already work with Efke and they are good with responding to questions like this.

Dear Tony,

We would never be able to economically finish to 127 size. Sorry.

As an option I can attest that Delta 100 slit to 127 and rolled into old spools works.

If you cut down 120, wouldn't you also have to attach the film to 127 backing paper, so that the numbers on the backing paper will be correct for cameras with the little red window?

Yes if you need the numbers. No if you have a gray Rollei or a Sawyer that indexes itself.

With everything but the Rolleiflex you have to measure the start line difference.

And it is too long by about 6.5 inches.

EDIT: A scheme that I have been working on, with no time to execute it properly, is to make a jig that lets me cut the excess length into two 2.25x3.25 sheets, then slit the remainder into both a roll of 127 and a roll for reloading a 16mm Minolta cartridge. Very little waste. I'm going to get around to all these plans "one of these days" if I don't die first.

I keep telling folks that if I win the lottery next week I still have to set my alarm clock. I've got more outstanding projects on the table than I can finish in my life even if I never had to spend another day earning a living.

I guess Adox/Efke is our only hope. I'll contact them for a 400 speed film.

Simon, thanks for your reply. I understand your issues.

To give folks an update on the 127 film situation, I am afraid the situation has not improved. The factory in Croatia that was rolling 127 film branded as either EFKE or Rollei, has now shut. Maco in Germany have no stocks left (I bought their last 3 rolls of any 127 film in Rollei Crossbird). The only game in town at present is Bluefire Murano 160 ISO colour print film http://www.bluefire.ca/BluefireMurano.htm. This is available in both Canada and Japan but they will send overseas.

I will have another go at Ilford-Harman (they did not answer my last email to them other than a "received" auto message). If they are the only maker of B&W 127 film, they could charge a premium price and folks would still pay, so the economics might now be different. It could be marketed through Rollei and Lomo user groups. I would hate it if my lovely Rollei Baby became a static object.

With respect, I think you have slightly missed the boat. Ilford offered bulk lengths of HP5+ on a roll film base cut to 127 size width in their 2013 annual Ultra Large Format special order offer. That has now closed and it did of course mean purchasers would have to provide their own spools & backing paper. Spools are still available from Maco in Germany and often on ebay. This offer was better than nothing but it is unrealistic to expect Ilford to now offer finished 127 film with spools & backing paper. Most people really keen on HP5+ in 127 would have ordered so that wouldn't leave much of a potential market for anymore. However it may be that the offer will be repeated in 2014 - fingers crossed!

PS Film Ferrania did mention they still had the equipment to produce 127 film (& other "obsolete" formats). Let us hope they get going again and perhaps they will produce 127 film but probably it would be a colour film.

Bump from the past, not sure I remembered about the 127 but that would be grand news, especially if they could come out with more E6 NOW. :/

Harman/ILFORD offer 46mm HP5+ as part of their annual large format special program. It's available in 50ft rolls good for respooling 127. It's a bit expensive though.

The ordering window for 2014 is about to open for late fall delivery. Order now if you want some.

Maco or Rollei (?) has brought back some black and white 127 but I think it's iso 100 or thereabouts.

Expensive? It ends up being about $5/roll once re-rolled...

The last EFKE100R in 127 was $10/roll and the Rollie nightbird (or whatever it's called) that sells currently at B&H is $15/roll.

So I would say it's relatively cheap!

Any good idea when. I looked at the Ilford site, and they're still showing the 2013; no info on the 2014 buy yet.

I know to watch here, but my activity has been pretty spotty the past few years, and I'd rather not miss it.

You don't watch here, you go to the large-format photography forum, and there they have the listing already up

We have not issued the 2014 ULF and Custom manufacturing list.

Whilst I do expect it to differ greatly it is not due on our website until the end of the month.

Stone, I missed it over at LFPF and can't find it either, any chance you could post a link.

Roger

Ya know what! I was wrong anyway... I dunno what I was thinking, Simon doesn't post on LFF I don't know why I said that, can the mods delete my stupid-ness?

I kept thinking because it's ULF it would be on the LFF but it's not. Sorry...

No worries, although it should be coming up soon. I'm sure Simon will post an announcement here, and someone will post it over on LFPF.

Roger.

And my post should have read: I do NOT expect the 2014 list to differ greatly from the 2013 list
