Just received a Sunpak 120J TTL Flash for my 503CW, The directions are a little thin.

1) With the 503 ISO set properly, will the flash work automatically with any combination f stop and shutter speed (within the flash range)?

2) If I place a diffuser sock over the flash, will it automatically compensate for the proper exposure.

If you have prior experience, I would greatly appreciate your feed back.

Best wishes for the Holidays!

I own this flash but I know nothing about the 'blad. If you have the correct Sunpak TTL module mounted to the flash and if the camera is capable of TTL, then the answer to both your questions should be "yes".

Otherwise, with the "standard" Sunpak module, you can use the flash in its "automatic" mode, and the standard module's exposure sensor will do a pretty good job of getting the flash output correct, though it won't be measuring the flash exposure "through the lens."

Hope this helps.

I assume yes for both with the module--I have the Hassy D-40 that is basically the same except full auto only--works great---a really nice flash !!
I also have a Metz 45 CL-4 and it is just as good dedicated or not---more versatile though as I use it with my Mamiya 7 II and RolleiFlex TLR's and SLR's---hard to beat it!! works on my Leica too !!

I have the same flash for my 503CW too.

On TTL with the correct module - yes.

2) If I place a diffuser sock over the flash, will it automatically compensate for the proper exposure.
Yes.

Regards, Art.

The Hasselblad actually has an "OTF" - Off The Film System. The sensor is aimed at the film itself and regulates flash exposure from light refected from the film itself.

I have the Hasselblad "ProFlash" - Model 4504. This thing is amazing ... one sets the ISO speed on the selector on the side of the camera, and the flash will be regulated by the light reflected from the center ~ 5 degrees (or so..) of the frame. I've made spectacular photographs of models with sunsets as backgrounds - simply set the f/stop and shutter speed for the sunset, and the OTF flash will illuminate the subject *very well*.

One thing to consider: Different films reflect light from their emulsions at different rates ... so the ideal Flash ISO setting my be somewhat different from the "box speed" of the film.
