J&C used to sell plastic film cannisters for 120. I'd like to get a bunch more of these, but can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone know a resource?

I don't know about the J&C containers, but you could try buying some Adox 120 film --comes in cannisters-- or, a bit higher priced, some Rollei R3 120 in cannister.

And... I believe there have been some more threads on 120 cannisters in the past. Try looking for and through those.

Thanks! However, I'd like to get around 200 of them, so perhaps the M&M thing is a last resort!!

I'll check the past threads.

Freestyle sells them at $1.49 each.
They are made by Cachet/Maco

I think Fuji has the NPZ 800 speed film in the little black canisters. I don't know if they are offering types of film in the same package. They are watertight, and store good. They probably would have been a good idea years ago, but I hadn't heard of them before now.

The ones that Porters have look nice, I might have to grab a few of those.

$1.49 for a canister?! I can buy a roll of cheap chinese made black and white film here in Shanghai for 7 RMB (a bit less than a dollar)!

Well I've learnt something today!

I never realised that the transparent 50ml self standing plastic centrifuge tubes that we buy in large sterilised bags of around 200 for under £20 a go in work could be used as a 120 film container.

Any lab supply house should sell them, and a lot less than $3.49 for 3!

In bulk 20 cents a pot.

(and very useful if you need to take a sample to the doctor..... if you take the film out first)

Now track down some in black plastic and you could be in business.

Well if I obtain the pots for free, there are loads spare that aren't sterile any more, and they only get binned

I'm not that broke (Yet) that I can't afford two 4" strips of gaffa tape to finish the job that I got a huge roll for a quid from Aldi
(for our American cousins think a low price version of Walmart)

And I can write on that with a magi-marker

And I do have a new delivery of mail order 120 in varying grades from the Ilford boys

And a load of fresh chemicals

And an excuse at the weekend to christen a couple of old cameras that fell off ebay

I think this is going to get horribly predictable

These are what I've been using for 3 or 4 years, they are very good. Try a medical equipment supplier since they are intended for gathering samples in, may be cheaper there in larger quantities.

Dave I note that the containers mentioned are priced in $. So presumably a long swim away. Where do you get yours from? Thanks

I checked www.usplastic.com for them, but they didn'y have any that were black and light proof. You can get a box of 100 "see through" sample vials for a few dollars from them. I need to keep looking around since I know that there are other places that will have "light proof" sample containers like this for cheap. Maybe Sciencekit will have them.

I remember a while ago someone was selling machined aluminium tubes for the same purpose, pretty damn expensive but they looked quiet good quality. Any idea if anyone still has those? Just two or three would be useful for a day's outing.

There's a source probably very close to your home - the drugstore.

They've got those little plastic pill bottles in every size imaginable and they'll sell 'em to you (at least mine will) for very little.

You probably don't need the parent-proof caps ...

Well, contact them. Maybe they'll make a run if enough orders are in.

home brew solution

I am awash in old kodak/agfa 35mm film canisters. I keep them, because they are good for spice storage when camping, holding small nuts and screws, etc.

My most recent use of two of them is to cut the top lip off of one, and the right amount of the bottom off of the other to make the pair of them long enough for a 120 film. I turned out a dozen such contrivances last winter sitting in front of the fireplace one night.

I join the two bits of 35mm cannister together with the handy man's secret weapon: self amalgamating rubber tape. It was once hard to find, but recently it has turned up at the Home Depot with the other electrical tapes.
