When you consider the amount of time spent shooting a roll, then processing/printing it, saving a few cents on cheaper film is a false economy. If you have a film you're comfortable with, in the long run, it will turn out less expensive than "bargains" you're uncertain of.

But you get 16,12.or 8 negatives out of a roll. Just ask how much would you sell the keepers for? As for GP3 I like that film a lot but never bought in bulk because I read that it never stored well. Foma is the next cheapest and good film and you can get some good bargains on Ebay with other films if you are lucky .

120 and 4x5 for me are not snapshooting films. As Sirius said, think before releasing the shutter. I enjoy the composition process, whether it is flowers in the garden or studio portraits. 135 is a more spontaneous format. That, and I am impatient to use up the roll so that I can process and scan it.

At the moment, learning a new camera (Bronica SQ-A) I'm just trying to learn my way around its idiosyncracies.. and how they fit with mine. Thought I'd ordered an SQ-A, but turned out it was an SQ and it worked okay. Spent a few mornings and today with it. Received a portrait / wedding shooters SQ-A today for almost nothing complete with bellows/shade, close up attachments, filters and speed grip... now I can tell this one "clicks". I do burn film in learning a camera.

But beyond that, I guess I've wondered other than 5-packs whether there's any other "in size" quantity to get discounts? I agree with the stick with a film / developer etc. you know. Though I am trying out some Acros 100 in 120 to compare with FP4 which has become my new favorite outdoors.

Shanghai was it back in the day. Rumor has it they'll be back some point this year. I hope the prices are still rock bottom. I love the stuff and wish I bought more.

I have used 120 film for snapshots. 645 and a one year old's birthday party, with more adults and kids running around then you could shake a stick at. But I used to photograph weddings and business functions with 120, so I had some experience to fall back on.
By the way, after I gave a nice set of colour prints to the one year old (and her parents) I got this really nice thank you note from her thanking me for my "interesting" photographs.
Maybe it was the shot of the sea of shoes left by the front door. Maybe it was the photographs of the babies, in baby carriers, sound asleep on the floor in the quiet hall, interspersed with diaper bags and cases of beer (it was nice and cool there).

Harman's Kentmere films are not manufactured in 120.
Harman have repeatedly stated over the years that they do not sell rebrands, though I suppose under the new ownership this may yet change.
Ultrafine, therefore, will not be Kentmere. ...

As I recall, the comment from Harmon (Simon G.) was a bit more specific than that. Something to the effect that they do not rebrand and sell their current films (HP5+, FP4+, etc). I'm not sure his comment even extended to the Kentmere offerings. I can't find the specific post, so I could be wrong.

I'd love to see Kentmere in 120. I assume they feel it would cannibalize the Ilford brand 120. You'd think the same would happen with their 35mm Kentmere, but maybe the remaining education market makes that viable. Only Harmon knows.

Personally I have always preferred the look of K400 over HP5 but have given up hope of ever seeing it in 120 rolls, K400 is my answer to Tri-X and it's silly prices.
