For Sale 120 and 220 Kodak 250D film from fresh 65mm! (First 100 ft roll spoken for)

Hi!

As some of you may be aware, Mercury Works (the folks who run Shoot70mm.com), are offering 100 ft rolls of Kodak Vision3 65mm film! To find smaller quantities of 65mm film for purchase is extremely rare, and I want to take this opportunity to make this uncommon film available in a format anyone can shoot!

The first 100 ft roll has been completely called for, and is guaranteed to be made into 120 and 220 rolls!

Any further orders will be placed on a standby list, which will be fulfilled if demand for a second roll is met. The minimum number of rolls needing to be asked for is 25 rolls of 120 or 14 rolls of 220 (or some combination of those). And, all the rolls must be purchased and paid for by September 29. I will not ask for payment if you are on the standby list until the minimum order is met for a second roll.

Payment is via PayPal F&F only.

Price for 120 is $16, 220 is $30. Shipping is $10 if you are in the US. If you’re not in the US it will be a bit more unfortunately. If you are in the EU and want to combine shipping, I am fine with that, and may be able to put you in contact with others in the EU/UK.

The film will be rolled onto 120 backing paper and spools from various manufacturers, and will not require any special handling while loading and unloading. The rolls include a sticker at the end of the roll to seal the film when exposed.

Please keep in mind that this is ECN-2 film, and cannot be processed in a minilab. Some labs that will process ECN-2 include M-Alchemy (120/220), Midwest Film Co. (120/220), Boutique Film Lab (120/220), and Blue Moon Camera (120/220). I am contacting a few other places as well as those above to see if they offer 120 and 220 processing, this list will be updated as I get more information.

This is a significant cost saving over Cinestill's no-remjet versions of these films, never mind Mercury Works modified film backs to use the 65mm directly ($300-$350 for RB67). Out of my reach at present, sadly...

220 is a great format for sure, I wish more people made it. Unfortunately it’s a vary manual process that not many people want to do. But, I’ll keep doing it as long as I can get the film for it, and as long as folks want it. Definitely let folks know that I’m doing this, I would love to be able to get this stuff out there and show what an amazing film this is!

Yes, this film will fit onto any regular 120 back. The film will be trimmed to size using a slitter and then rolled onto 120 spools and paper as seen in the linked thread in my signature.

Is this film perforated? Can one slit off the perfs and still have 120/220 film? And then there's the remjet. I don't really get trying to shoot cine film when Rochester is still making still films.

To answer some of your questions:

The film will still have perforations, there isn’t much I can do about that. It should only affect the edge of the image, which you can easily remove in a photo editor, or leave in as a character trait of the film.

The reason folks shoot cine film is because it usually costs much less than regular still film. For instance, I get shirt ends in 35mm that cost about $3/roll. Unfortunately due to the small scale nature of what I’m doing here, and the time and effort involved, I’m not able to lower the cost much.

I would love to roll XX as 120, however I don’t believe that there is any XX being sold to still photographers, and what little was went to Asia where it is being sold on the Chinese market.

To be fully transparent, although I will be making a profit, it will not be very much in the grand scheme of things, around $70 after buying the slitter and backing paper, hence the minimum order requirement. I’m not doing this for a bunch of profit, I just think that this film is a very good film that anyone should be able to shoot in medium format.

Maybe I’ll eventually make some kind of arrangement to get a single 1000 ft roll of XX, 50D or 250D in 65mm, but I am far from being able to do that at this point.

I understand the short ends thing, makes sense. I'm still mostly interested in optical printing using conventional color negative stocks or reversal film (projection or some scanning)

Doesn't matter as I'm sure it isn't really available. Just thinking out loud. It would be nice if Kodak could sell some TXP in 70mm, sell it in long rolls to folks like You to wind into 100' rolls for us folks. Makes absolutely Zero business sense. Still....

We have passed the minimum requirement for this order to go through! In total, 6 rolls of 220 and 18 rolls of 120 have been ordered by 6 people, both here and on Discord!

I’ll start figuring out logistics with everyone individually, and beginning to ask for payment. I believe everyone here is from the US, so no need to worry about international shipping.

So exiting that this has worked out!

I can still make 1 roll of 220 or 2 rolls of 120 from the 100 ft roll with some margins for error, beyond that I would be hesitant to guarantee film, as there is usually some waste film due to the cutter jamming or the lengths of film not being exactly the right length (usually a little bit longer than ISO spec).

I was only really planning on doing one roll of film, however I can still take orders and put them on a standby list, and if there is enough demand for a second roll I can probably make that happen.

Hi, I’m going to use a slitter by Goathill Film Slitters (@xkaes). The 70mm to 120 version has been working very nicely for me so far, so even though I haven’t used this particular size yet, I have full confidence that it will work great.

There sure seems to be a lot of 65mm and 70mm film floating around lately. I have no idea what that is all about.

There also seems to be a lot of people interested in using 120/220 -- and even 127 -- cameras too.
